About Rowan University, College of Engineering and The ECE Department
Located in southern New Jersey in the greater Philadelphia metro area, Rowan University is a comprehensive public institution with 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in seventeen colleges and schools, including two independent medical schools. In 2013, the State of New Jersey designated Rowan University as a comprehensive research university, and in 2017, Rowan University was recognized as a Carnegie-classified research institution. Rowan University’s vision includes becoming a Carnegie-classified R1 institution within 3-5 years.
A national leader in engineering education, the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering was founded in 1995 and quickly gained national recognition for its innovative, multidisciplinary, project-based approach to engineering education. Since 2017, Rowan Engineering has doubled both its full-time faculty and student population and started Ph.D. programs. We also opened Engineering Hall, the new home of the ECE Department, and completed a full renovation of our original home, Rowan Hall. These projects tripled our available space and provided the College with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. The College currently enrolls over 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students in six departments and is home to four research centers, including the ECE’s rapidly growing Machine & Artificial Intelligence Virtual Reality Center (MAVRC).
Our new focus on providing more research experience to our students and faculty is helping us enhance our research infrastructure and capabilities. We are also further developing our South Jersey Technology Park and Joint Health Sciences Center in Camden, New Jersey for expanded industry collaboration and entrepreneurial activities, provide more funding for graduate assistants, and offer substantial and competitive start-up funds to all new tenure-track faculty.
These developments have now set the framework for initiating new multidisciplinary research areas to complement our existing expertise in AI and machine learning, smart sensors, embedded systems, smart and microgrid, signal and image processing, wireless and optical communications, robotics, advanced imaging and virtual reality, power systems, and aerospace systems among others.
