Job Description
The University of Missouri (MU) seeks applications and nominations for outstanding faculty candidates with a focus on Energy and Sustainability Systems. This appointment is part of MizzouForward, the most important strategic investment to achieve research excellence and student success in the history of the university. This initiative will leverage existing institutional strengths and address national health and scientific priority areas through innovation and collaboration. Successful candidates will have outstanding, competitive, externally funded research programs in any area related to Energy and Sustainability Systems. Positions are available in all units across campus and joint appointments between multiple departments are possible.
Incoming faculty will build on existing strengths including renewable energy, electronics, cybersecurity, and grid management with the goal to significantly grow existing expertise and seed new growth in the research areas of, but not limited to, Nuclear Power, Hydrogen Technologies, Energy Storage, Biofuels, Critical Materials for the Energy Sector, Feedstock Conversion Technology, Life-cycle Analysis, Carbon Sink/Sequestration, Water-Food-Energy Nexus, Renewable and Sustainable Energy including Cybersecurity, Power Electronics and Grid Technologies as well as Energy Policy, and innovative methods in Decarbonization and Sustainability. The Electron Microscopy Core Facility (EMC) is equipped to provide state-of-the-art electron microscopy services and technology to incoming investigators. Additionally MU provides resources like the Advanced Light Microscopy, the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Core, the PET Imaging Center, as well as access to the Hellbender, a high-power computing environment, the Materials Characterization & Fabrication Core, the Micro X-ray Core, the Immersive Visualization CAVE for AI/Big Data Analytics, as well as Class 1000 Clean Room within the MU Materials Science & Engineering Institute (MSEI). Further MU is home to the Gehrke Proteomics Center, the Metabolomics Center, the Genomics Technology Core, the MU Research Reactor a Power Plant Bio-Boiler, the Pilot-scale Anaerobic Digestion Plant as well as the Plant Transformation Core.
Minimum Qualification
An earned terminal degree in a related discipline
Candidates will be evaluated on the following factors
Track record of external research funding, particularly from federal agencies
Research portfolio and accomplishments (e.g., publication record, number of citations)
National awards and honors, membership with national academies
Interdisciplinary orientation of their work
Review of applications will begin immediately, and candidate interviews will occur on a rolling basis throughout the academic year. Candidates across all academic ranks will be considered. Specific academic home(s) of candidates will be determined throughout the hiring process.
