Job Summary
The Distributed Energy Resources Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable interconnection and integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) to the La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) distribution grid. This individual will monitor, analyze, and control DERs to promote LPEA’s goals. They will actively collaborate with the Grid Innovations and Programs team, IT specialists, and engineers across several departments.
Essential Functions
Safely and reliably integrate DERs with LPEA’s distribution system.
Monitor connectivity and performance of DERs enrolled in LPEA’s programs.
Support members in connecting DERs to LPEA’s programs.
Control DERs in LPEA’s programs to mitigate peak demand and achieve other LPEA objectives.
Conduct engineering reviews for proposed interconnections of PV solar and/or small energy storage projects in accordance with LPEA’s interconnection procedures and standards.
Review and maintain DER records, including interconnection records.
Support the Renewable Energy Advisor with the interconnection process including application processing, technical evaluations, and field inspections as needed.
Support the development and evaluation of technical documentation such as inverter settings for interconnection.
Run data analytics, develop reports, and support development of data analysis tools that fully leverage the LPEA’s various data systems.
Analyze DER, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) data to identify, investigate, and solve problems related to LPEA’s systems.
Collaborate across departments to communicate information, analyses, and solutions to improve LPEA’s systems and processes.
Perform cost/benefit analysis of DER programs.
Point of contact for members with distributed energy resource inquiries.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
Minimum
Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree or equivalent from a four-year college; and two years related experience and/or training; or an Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred
Prior experience with distributed energy resources
Prior data science experience
Compensation
Hourly pay rate- $31.78- $38.92
LPEA takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
