Position Announcement:
Department Information:
The Department of Chemistry consists of a well-rounded research community with cutting-edge expertise in a wide variety of modern disciplines including analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, materials chemistry, and biochemistry.
Job Summary:
Prof. Ricardo Vázquez in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University – Bloomington is accepting applications for a postdoctoral research position. The position offers an opportunity to work on an interdisciplinary project for developing organic semiconductors for large-scale green energy storage applications.
Our group is interested in developing Conjugated Polyelectrolytes (RA-CPEs) for various applications. This position primarily aims to develop water-soluble Redox-Active CPEs for pseudocapacitive and redox-flow batteries applications. The electrochemical characterization experiments will be conducted in-house using a multichannel potentiostat with three-electrode and two-electrode cell configurations. The candidate will carry out electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and galvanic charge-discharge (GCD), among others. Our group will regularly use shared resources on our campus relevant to this project, including a state-of-the-art electron microscopy center and other chemical characterization tools. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with others in our group that work on organic semiconductors for optoelectronic applications and collaborators at other institutions. The ultimate goal of these experiments is to control the energy levels and electrochemical stability of RA-CPEs in different oxidation states to develop large-scale and green energy storage technologies.
Basic Qualifications:
Ph.D. in chemistry by January 2023.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have previous experience synthesizing and characterizing organic semiconductors for optoelectronic applications. Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in electrochemical energy storage applications, mainly with proven success in the redox-flow batteries realm. Desired candidates will have experience with cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and galvanic charge-discharge (GCD), among others. Applicants are not expected to have experience in all these fields but should have the ambition to develop skills in this interdisciplinary training program that bridges these fields.
