Jack County Generation Facility is a 1,240 MW state-of-the-art natural gas fired 4-on-2 combined cycle electric generating plant, consisting of four (4) gas turbines, two (2) steam turbine generators, two (2) cooling towers, turbine inlet cooling with thermal energy storage, and two (2) independently operated zero-liquid discharge plants.
Position Summary: Operates auxiliary equipment of the applicable power generating station. Equipment to be operated will include combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators, steam turbines, zero-discharge water treatment plant, water treatment plant, gas pipeline equipment, water pipeline equipment and balance-of-plant equipment to meet Power Requirements of Resource Operations. Observes the operation and maintenance of all equipment and reports any trouble or malfunction to Supervisor or appropriate Operator. Updates reports, station logs and other detailed information under the direction of the Supervisor to provide detailed information for plant reliability. Jack County Generation Facility - Reports to a Shift Supervisor and indirectly to the Operations Superintendent. Receives work direction from a more senior Operations Technician (Tech III, IV or V). Works a rotating shift schedule, responds to call outs and works overtime when needed as directed by management. Assumes such authority as may be delegated.
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Safely and efficiently operates plant equipment from both inside and outside of the Control Room, as required, to meet dispatch schedule. Assists in the operation of the water treatment plant equipment to ensure safety, reliably and economy. Takes readings of temperature, pressures, and flows over the entire plant and checks for proper operation of equipment. Assists in the control of chemical quantities for prevention of scaling and corrosion. Recommends blow down rates for additional protection. Issues Lock Out/ Tag Out, Confined Space, Hot Work and other permits in accordance with delegated authority and applicable procedures. Assists in the operation of the plant, as required, to meet the loading (including cycling of all or part of the facility) and voltage needs of system dispatch. May be required to perform Mechanical duties as required. Performs switching operations, as directed. Performs assigned preventive and corrective maintenance duties. Identifies equipment deficiencies and reports deficiencies using the Plant Computerized Maintenance Management System. Performs other duties as required.
Education & Experience Requirements: High School Graduate or equivalent. Graduate of a 2-year school/program with a degree/certification in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, or power plant technology is desired. Similar military experience and training or the successful completion of a power plant qualification program will be considered for equivalent experience/education. Combined cycle power plant, gas turbine, or steam turbine experience is desired.
Physical and Environmental Requirements: Requires working inside and outside of an electric generating plant in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes with extreme ranges of humidity and dryness. Requires working in areas of constant high noise and vibration levels. Requires lifting, pushing pulling or carrying of weights equal to 50 pounds or more. Requires climbing ladders and stairs. Requires wearing personal safety equipment. Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted. Requires vision within normal range, corrective lens are permitted.
