Job Summary (Overall Purpose of the Position)
The Energy Technology Specialist serves as the customer-facing energy technology expert for Midwest Energy. This individual is the customer’s “go-to” advisor on electric vehicles (EV), fleet electrification, EV charging stations, and behind-the-meter distributed resources such as rooftop solar and energy storage applications. The Energy Technology Specialist (1) develops and promotes customer programs, (2) builds and maintains internal and external relationships and (3) monitors public policy, incentives and subsidies that support the growth of transportation electrification, adoption of distributed energy resources beneficial to Midwest Energy and other beneficial electrification technologies.
Job Duties - Responsibilities – Tasks
- Serve as Midwest Energy’s behind-the-meter renewable energy expert and the customers’ point of contact on specific processes and technology resources (EV, fleet electrification, EV charging stations, rooftop solar and associated applications), including the latest research trends.
- Become the customer’s “go-to” advisor and champion for EV adoption throughout the education, purchase and use cycle.
- Develop relationships with key business partners (electricians, rooftop solar system vendors, automotive dealers, etc.) and provide education to ensure beneficial economic decisions are made for end-use customers.
- Develop knowledge of energy technologies (EV, fleet electrification, EV charging stations, rooftop solar and associated applications) and proactively promote energy efficiency, demand reduction, and beneficial electrification.
- Apply data analytics to customer energy use, EV charging loads and behind the meter distributed resources to identify trends, educate internally, and assist in making internal business decisions benefiting system design and upgrades.
- Apply data analytics to customer energy use, EV charging loads and behind the meter distributed resources to draw conclusions, educate and make recommendations to customers to guide them to efficient, economic installation decisions.
- Develop appropriate behind-the-meter renewable energy programs. Lead and support program implementation, coordinate with internal departments, develop external partnerships, and partake in advocacy activities. Monitor and suggest continued strategic outreach opportunities and program development.
- In collaboration with supervisor, keep Executive Staff up to date on behind-the-meter renewable energy programs, emerging technologies, and funding opportunities.
- Monitor public policy, incentives and subsidies including government grants that promote the growth of transportation electrification and specifically EV charging infrastructure. This includes working with federal and state agencies, investor-owned utilities, public power agencies, key industry associates and municipal authorities.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional work groups including Engineering, rate making, Finance and other departments as needed to deliver end-to-end support, from inception to completion.
- Responsible for the oversight and review of the renewable generation interconnection process for interconnects behind-the-meter.
- Conduct informational meetings with customers and vendors and work with civic clubs, special interest groups and others to promote Midwest Energy’s products, programs, and services.
- Promote safe working habits and enforce all safety rules and regulations of Midwest Energy, Inc. Lead by example in safety compliance and take corrective action on safety violations, defective equipment, and any other practice that may adversely affect a safe working environment.
- Keep informed regarding new developments, trends, and best practices in relevant fields. Recommend changes, initiatives, etc. to management for effective processes and procedures within the company.
- Keep apprised of changes and developments in pertinent local, State and Federal laws, ordinances and rules, and take appropriate action to stay in compliance with said rules, regulations, etc.
- Develop and maintain internal and external working relationships for maximum effectiveness in serving Midwest Energy customers and communities. Ensure communication and exchange of information so as to present a positive corporate image, both internally and externally. Keep management informed of issues that might impact the work environment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, business, engineering, or related discipline required or commensurate combination of degree and/or relevant work experience.
- The relevant experience includes technical sales, marketing, product knowledge and management, project management, utility industry, renewable energy, account management and consulting.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and their capacities – desired, but not required
- Additional training as required by department.
