Position duration:MAXIMUM DURATION OF SERVICE IN A POSTDOCTORAL TITLE Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time; the initial appointment is for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Reappointment will be contingent upon positive performance review and availability of funding. The total duration of an individuals postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution. Under limited circumstances, an exception to this limit may be considered, not to exceed a sixth year.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar. Under the direction of UCSC Professor Jin Zhang and LBNL Senior Scientist Jinghua Guo, the postdoctoral scholar will (i) utilize in-situ soft x-ray spectroscopy characterization to study hydrogen plasma and (ii) contribute to the development of an advanced, non-thermal plasma-assisted hydrogenolysis strategy that integrates hydrogen plasma cracking of plastics into light olefins and liquid products with a novel concept of plasma-enabled gas-phase electrocatalysis to further improve the upcycling activity, selectivity, and efficiency properties.
Applicants with expertise in energy-storage materials, soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and resonant inelastic soft x-ray scattering (RIXS) techniques for studying electronic structure polymers are strongly encouraged to apply.
Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering, or a related field. Ph.D. must be in hand at time of the initial appointment.
