Lead DEA’s energy and member services team to meet the objectives of DEA’s strategic plan and annual objectives. Lead effort to increase our members’ satisfaction to a level that rivals all other energy/utility suppliers and position DEA to meet its promise of service commitment. Be a key contributor to DEA’s senior management team.
Comply with established Dakota Electric Association safety and operating rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Be responsible for reporting any un-safe practices and or hazards to a supervisor. Visibly committed and actively involved in Dakota Electric’s safety programs, initiatives and performance.
Serves as a member of the Senior Management Team which includes but is not limited to:
Leadership, innovation, continual improvement
Strategic planning, develop goals and metrics
Annual budgets and workplan
Legislative and Regulatory technical support
Participation at monthly board of director meetings
Organizational planning including the Cooperative Vision, Mission, Values and policies
Business continuity & emergency communications
Personally involved with Dakota Electric’s members and public for inquiries and conflict resolution.
Lead energy and member services to achieve Dakota Electric’s objective of providing noticeably superior service while striving to exceed our members’ expectations.
Lead internal teams in coordination with our wholesale power supplier to:
Research, develop and direct the cooperative's delivery of demand-side management programs.
Lead Dakota Electric Association’s renewable energy, energy storage, and electric vehicle initiatives.
Lead team to achieve energy efficiency and conservation goals.
Lead key account team to form business partnerships and relationships with Dakota Electric Association’s largest commercial and industrial accounts’ chief executives and establish, negotiate and facilitate long-term power contracts with large commercial/industrial accounts.
Lead team to develop and implement strategic programs focused to meet the objectives of DEA’s strategic plan.
Lead efforts to research and develop strategies and business partnerships to launch new programs focused on energy efficiency and member convenience.
Has a working knowledge of software, technology, and the emerging value of data analytics.
Lead team to continually develop and implement written and electronic communications programs that enhance DEA’s image with customers, the communities we serve, legislators, regulators, environmental groups, and the press.
Lead team to develop and implement effective economic development, community relations, and donation programs.
Assist senior management team and key staff to monitor and follow activities affecting the energy industry.
Develop, implement and maintain training programs to improve sales, customer service, communication, technical skills, etc. Facilitate and meet training needs for individual employees for career development.
Be prepared to fill in as acting CEO. DEA’s CEO will determine if/when this is needed.
Supervision/Direction of Others
Directly supervises the economic development director, the community relations director, the energy and member services manager, the communications specialists (2), the public relations director, the business account executives (3), and the coordinator of community affairs.
Must have strong supervisory and motivational skills and have the ability to effectively deal with employee concerns. Must be able to delegate effectively. Supports teamwork by providing effective participation, cooperation and communication.
Must be innovative in order to creatively develop new solutions to problems.
Exceptional customer service skills are essential, especially when dealing with difficult issues.
Must be accomplished in budget analysis and preparation.
Must be accomplished in work planning, project preparation, conducting performance appraisals, and fulfilling staffing requirements.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must have strong presentation skills and be able to prepare and give presentations to large groups of people and board of directors.

Must have proficient computer skills in a variety of applications.
A valid Minnesota driver’s license is required. Driving is required for this position.
A strong technical background is preferred.
Must be available to attend evening and weekend meetings and must be willing to accept overnight travel to participate in periodic training sessions or other work-related assignments.
The employee will frequently work additional hours.

Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in business or related field with 10 years of experience in a senior leadership position is required. Five years of experience in the electric industry is preferred. Working knowledge of basic electricity, electrical equipment, lighting, and HVAC systems preferred.
