Position Description The Interdisciplinary Science (IS) Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate for a two-year appointment to perform research in the areas of Smart Grid development and grid integration of renewable energy generation. The IS Department, in collaboration with others, is performing research in the areas of Smart Grid development and grid integration of renewable energy generation. The goal of our research is to contribute to the development of the next generation Smart Grid, including applications of innovative smart grid technologies that could facilitate the integration of renewable generation and other distributed energy resources into the power grid. One project the successful candidates will support is to develop an initial framework for planning, operation, and control of "hybrid" energy systems containing high penetrations of renewables together with energy storage, non-wires alternatives, and conventional generating resources. Essential Duties: The successful applicant will work with other researchers on the project team in support of various studies and programs, including: - Grid modeling and analysis
- Statistical data analyses
- Probabilistic planning
- Writing reports on the analysis results
Position Requirements - PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Knowledge of electric power systems and background in machine learning applications in power grid
- Experience with power system dynamics and/or optimization, modeling electrical networks with integrated renewable energy sources using existing analytical tools, and Python and/or Matlab programming
- Proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Effective written and oral communication skills, and ability to work with others as part of a project team
Preferred Requirements: - Experience with data analytics and a statistics background, as well as tools such as PSS/E, PSCad, OpenDSS.
