The Superconducting Magnet Division (SMD) designs, builds, and tests superconducting magnets for use in particle accelerators world-wide. The SMD also builds magnets for various other applications (e.g., Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage) and provides magnetic measurement services lab-wide.
The Superconducting Magnet Division has an opening for an experienced Electro-Mechanical Technician with skills in precision machining, electro-mechanical assembly. In this role, you will conduct diagnostics utilizing LabView motion controls program (training to be provided). You will also maintain and develop magnetic field measurement positioning system. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Use of precision machining and machine tools (Lathes, milling machines, drill presses
Fabrication of electro-mechanical sub-assemblies and perform work from mechanical assembly drawings
Operate electronic measurement equipment, power supplies and small specialized systems
Stock and maintain inventory of spare parts
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Equivalence of an Associate degree or technical institute certificate in a related field
Six (6) years of full-time relevant work experience
Hands-on knowledge and experience using electronic test equipment, such as oscilloscope, multimeters
Ability to read electrical circuit diagrams and assembly drawings
Basic computer operating skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Electronic system assembly skills, such as soldering, wiring, enclosure design
Clear and concise communication skills
Ability to work in varied shifts
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of pneumatic and electro-mechanical positioning systems
Experience with alignment leveling process using precision sensors like inclinometers, accelerometers, and laser alignment systems
Ability to process data using MS Excel worksheets and write small reports using MS Word and PowerPoint
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Ability to work at heights up to 5 feet
A valid US Drivers' license is required
Selected individual will be placed an appropriate level commensurate with experience and qualifications
