POSITION: Solar Electrical Technician (Commercial)
REPORTS TO: Operations & Maintenance Manager
The Solar Electrical Technician is responsible for the on-site operations and maintenance of small to large solar PV systems, including, but not limited to site safety, electrical system maintenance, sub-contractor management, commissioning, site field reports, and other duties as required to properly maintain and operate the site within the contractual requirements.
Candidates must have a strong background in electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, preferably in solar.
The following responsibilities are not limited to:
Conduct site safety assessments and identify all safety hazards, properly generate and complete, JSA, LOTO, and other safety related documentation per OSHA and site-specific requirements.
Perform OEM testing, troubleshooting, repairs and upgrades/revisions to a broad range of equipment in commercial solar.
Must be able to work closely with O&M Manager and Superintendent to react and resolve production related issues as they arise in the field.
Review site drawings to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
Communicate with internal and external customers as required.
Ensure all site issues are documented in Salesforce and addressed.
Field work includes electrical and mechanical preventative and corrective maintenance of site equipment, site field reporting, and Salesforce Maintenance Ticket completion.
Perform testing on equipment, including but not limited to; insulation testing (megger testing), I-V curve testing, thermal imagery, torque tests, performance evaluations and shade reports via Suneye.
Quality assurance for all work performed on-site.
Troubleshoot PV system performance issues. Locate and isolate ground faults and arc faults.
Comply with regulatory and OSHA safety requirements (OSHA).
Work with network functions, IP addresses and internet connections in relation to Data Acquisition Systems.
Planned and unplanned overtime and very limited weekend work may be required.
Out of State travel may be required up to 5%
Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain and snow.
Perform work at various heights up to 50’, working from ladders, scissor lifts, aerial lifts, or other safe working platforms.
Must be comfortable working on rooftops with proper fall protection. OSHA 1910 compliance.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hat and safety glasses at all times.
Work around high voltages and currents.
Repetitive use of legs, arms, hands and fingers.
Formal electrical training or 1+ years’ equivalent experience in maintaining PV electrical equipment in the commercial solar energy field.
1+ years’ experience diagnosing and repairing commercial solar PV electrical systems.
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills. Technical knowledge of solar.
Strong understanding of OSHA safety requirements including LOTO, Arc Flash, JSA, etc.
Ability to comprehend a construction one-line drawing.
Strong work ethic, ability to keep a positive attitude, and be a self-starter.
Capable of managing multiple tasks and adapting to change easily.
Experience with monitoring systems to diagnose site problems and monitor daily performance.
Demonstrate safe work practices and quality orientation.
Able to work in a team environment or alone with little to no supervision.
Knowledgeable and able to work with different computer programs and cloud-based software systems such as MS Word, MS Excel, Salesforce, GoCanvas and Data Acquisition Systems.
Ability to analyze and resolve problems independently.
