The College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track lecturer position that also includes serving as the Director of the Master’s of Professional Studies in Biotechnology program.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Associate Dean of Shady Grove Affairs in the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, this full-time lecturer position also serves as the Graduate Program Director of UMBC's program leading to a professional master’s degree in biotechnology. The Master’s of Professional Studies in Biotechnology prepares recent college graduates and science professionals for leadership roles in biotechnology-related companies or agencies. The curriculum provides advanced instruction in the life sciences along with coursework in regulatory affairs, legal/ethical issues, leadership, communication, and management. The incumbent will teach courses in the program. In addition to teaching, the incumbent will: oversee curriculum and instruction; recruit and manage qualified part-time faculty; collaborate with the Division of Professional Studies on program marketing, student recruitment and retention activities; develop and maintain partnerships with the local biotechnology industry; and carry out the administrative duties associated with academic program oversight.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate or advanced postgraduate degree in a field related to biotechnology is required. Applicants must have at least five years of relevant professional experience working in the biotechnology industry. Post-secondary teaching experience and the use of innovative teaching strategies is strongly preferred.
SALARY: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes regular university benefits.
