The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Syracuse University is seeking applicants in the field of novel material fabrication, synthesis and design (e.g. 2D materials, nanocomposites, self-assembly, photonics, etc.). The Department seeks to fill a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. This recruitment is part of an ambitious Invest Syracuse Cluster Hire Initiative in the broad area of Energy and Environment. As an integral part of this investment, Syracuse University will recruit multiple candidates for faculty positions for a research cluster in the focus area of Materials for Energy Conversion and/or Storage. Faculty hired into these positions will build on our existing strengths in the focus area and will participate in an organized research cluster that spans multiple departments in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
It is anticipated that the appointments will begin in Fall 2020. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field by the date of appointment. Further information on the MAE department can be found at: http://mae.syr.edu
The Department has close ties with other Departments and on-campus multidisciplinary centers like the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (SyracuseCoE) and the Center for Advanced Systems and Engineering (CASE). In addition, New York state opportunities include the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) funding opportunities to develop energy efficient technologies, and the recent investment of $250 million for unmanned systems and cross-connected platforms in the central New York state region as part of the Upstate Revitalization Initiative.
