This position is a Research Foundation funded temporary position and renewal on an annual basis.
SUNY Morrisville invites applications to join the Facilities staff in the position of Energy Manager. This position is anticipated to be a two year appointment with the possibility of continued appointment if able to document significant annual energy savings and/or rebates through energy initiatives. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
The Energy Manager will assist in the development of, monitor, and guide the progression of the energy master plan, implement the energy conservation measures recommended by the plan, track results, oversee utility accounts, train staff in energy conservation techniques, develop protocols and procedures for data management, obtain energy related grants and utility rebates for qualifying projects, comply with required reporting related to the NYSERDA energy manager grant.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate overall campus-wide energy management efforts including compliance efforts with EO88;
Develop and manage required reporting on energy manager grant implementation;
Assist in the development of an energy master plan using NYSERDA and other funding sources including energy performance contracting and utility rebates;
Implement energy master plan initiatives, energy savings policies and other sustainability initiatives in concert with maintenance staff and Design and Construction;
Monitor and promote campus progress of energy project planning;
Assist campus with the implementation of the NY Energy Manager submetering monitoring;
Provide campus with engineering expertise, especially related to building mechanical operations and building controls;
Provide assistance with issues related to implementation of specific energy savings measures and design review of capital projects for realistic energy savings measures;
Provide guidance and monitor campus efforts related to implementation of operations and maintenance strategies to assure continued energy savings as a result of the implemented energy projects;
Work with the overall campus data for buildings, meters and energy use to develop metrics and reporting;
Evaluate campus meter, usage and billing data to identify potential anomalies such as abnormal line losses;
Assist campus with assessment of shared services opportunities related to energy efficiency matters;
Review energy project savings calculations and project costs to assess financial viability of projects and goals.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field
3 years' experience in energy efficiency, management, tracking and reporting
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license for New York State;
Strong computer skills including MS Office applications
Degree specialty in electrical, mechanical, applied engineering, or energy management preferred
Certified Energy Manger (CEM) preferred
Experience with cost analysis of energy savings measures, NYSERDA grant programs, utility rebate applications and energy performance contracts
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Ability to work well with all levels of campus and system administration staff
Understanding of proper data management
Ability to write comprehensive reports on energy projects and progression towards operating goals
Knowledge of thermodynamics, HVAC systems, plumbing/water, building control systems and electrical systems of all fuel types
Understanding of energy rate structure and related tariffs
