This individual works in collaboration with the EH&S senior management team and will be responsible for leading key department business, administrative and compliance functions including, oversight of the EHS IT systems, IT Road mapping process, and EH&S Department website; development and deployment of EHS training programs and compliance tracking, developing and implementing Department's communication plan and strategy, as well as implementing and managing internal professional development and mentoring programs and the EH&S New Employee Orientation program. Additionally, this individual will lead initiatives to compile and report department performance metrics and build partnerships within the department and the University to integrate EHS systems and initiatives with University and Harvard Campus Services best practices and strategic vision.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee systems and training projects and programs for the department by determining and coordinating resources, managing budget, working with stakeholders to understand business needs, requirements, implementing recommended solutions, and using a collaborative process to bring projects to completion.
Define and drive process changes that improve implementation and delivery of EHS compliance solutions. Maintains HTP -EHS training system including prescriptive rules and compliance tracking reports. Manage related third-party partner and vendor relationships. Serve on the program and other committees as a strategy and planning subject matter expert for EHS training, systems, professional development and communication.
Work with EHS management to establish training requirements for EH&S department professionals, including evaluating and building key competencies, and improving opportunities for inter-disciplinary cross-training.
Provide leadership and oversight of the team's performance including verbal and written communication, financial, scheduling, resource allocation and project deliverables.
Draw on Campus Services shared services expertise to establish programs for on-boarding, management of change, professional development, mentoring, career development and communication.
Leverage opportunities to connect EHS goals with university-wide IT, Training, and Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiatives as well as bring together academic and non-academic components of the University with EH&S training programs (e.g. EH&S training institute, eLearning, etc.) and further enhance our mission of supporting teaching and research and operations of the University.
Establish and manage a means for tracking IT systems and training effectiveness, development of metrics for training and IT systems and standards for- and actual reporting of- EHS training performance for both customers and senior management.
Collect stakeholder feedback and use a deliberative process to adapt EHS management and IT systems/training strategy accordingly. Participates in technology decision making such as requirements development, build or buy decisions, etc.
Experiments with and innovates on EHS programs with the goal of learning what works better, faster, more efficiently, with increased quality and customer satisfaction. Identifies priority areas to focus business experimentation and innovation activity.
Exercise good decision making and problem-solving skills in supporting EHS systems and training programs by identifying and understanding user issues, problems, and opportunities; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions; using effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; and taking action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.
As a member of EH&S leadership, contributes to initiatives and goals of the entire department as needed.

Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work or military experience.
Minimum of 10 years post-secondary education and/or relevant work experience in an EH&S/Systems leadership role.
Must be adept at Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple assignments for independent operating units.
Must demonstrate excellent behavioral competencies such as strong customer service orientation, organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, a bias for action, and empathy for users.
Experience working with users to gather requirements and delivering applications through a change process involving phases for building, testing, UAT, and deployment.
Strong project planning experience including development and execution of plans and strategies.
Knowledge of advanced IT project management principles and software. Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach and the ability to act as a trusted advisor. Understanding of EH&S management processes and applications preferred
Professional Registration (CSP, CIH, PE, CHMM, etc.) or Advanced degree preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of College/University setting

Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively communicate EHS matters of compliance and risk with senior management, front line supervisors, trades or laboratory personnel and others. Maintains a deep knowledge of the people, facilities, processes /systems and identifies where EHS requirements or systems can be integrated into existing operating structures or systems.
Strong technical and behavioral attributes are essential. Aside from strong regulatory knowledge, competent and demonstrated technical skills are critical. A deep customer orientation is necessary, so are: a bias for action, a commitment to excellence in service and results, an ability to understand the university perspective and strong skills in communicating that perspective to the customer.
Technology Skills Required Must be proficient in the use of technology and computers including Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Must have experience implementing multi-stakeholder IT development projects.
Special Requirements Participates in the EHS Emergency Response Program on a rotating basis as a cross-trained EHS Responder. Will be required to carry a cell phone and occasionally respond to emergencies during non-business hours.
