Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
TheDepartmentofIndustrialandManufacturingSystemsEngineering (IMSE) atIowaState University invites applications for a faculty position asanAssistant,AssociateorFull Professor in the areaofmanufacturing.Candidateswillbe expected todevelopand teach undergraduateandgraduate courses, establish and sustain strongresearchprograms in theirareaofexpertise, act as adviser tograduate students andundergraduatestudentresearch,andprovide service to the department,college,anduniversity. Manufacturing expertise should be closely related to advanced manufacturing technologies and processes, digital manufacturing, advanced sensing and control, or advanced materials manufacturing.
Thesuccessfulapplicantwillbeparticipating in all aspects of the departmentâs mission, includingdeveloping a strongexternallyfundedresearchprogram,teachingand supervising students at the undergraduateandgraduate levels, andparticipating in service to the university.
Practical experience in manufacturing
Candidatesat the level ofAssistant Professor must demonstrate ability orpotential for fundedresearchand for excellence in teaching in the areaofmanufacturing.
Candidatesat the level ofAssociateorFullProfessor, in additionto the above, must demonstrate ability for fundedresearchand for excellence in teaching in the areaofmanufacturing,commensurate with qualifications for the rankatIowaStateUniversity.
Department/Program & College Description:
The IMSE department has over 27,000 square feet of centrally located space. It has invested over $3M in manufacturing labs in the last eight years. Manufacturing
researchers in IMSE are actively participating in three institutes established by National Network for Manufacturing Innovation.
The department has collaborations in all of these areas across the Engineering College and University. The ISU College of Engineering comprises eight departments with 300+ tenure/tenure-track faculty members and annual research expenditures exceeding $99 million.
U.S. News and World Report ranks the IMSE graduate program 24th in the U.S. and 16th among public universities while the College of Engineering is ranked in the top 25 among public universities and is one of the ten largest undergraduate engineering programs in the U.S. Unique facilities at Iowa State include the Ames Laboratory of the Department of Energy, and interdisciplinary centers of excellence such as the Wind Energy Initiative, Center for Nondestructive Evaluation (CNDE), and the Center for Industrial Research and Services (CIRAS).
