The Facilities Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full time Lead HVAC Maintenance Engineer. The Lead HVAC Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining climate controlled buildings by installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilating, air conditioning and control equipment.
Responsibilities: • Maintain adequate structural climate by installing, repairing and maintaining HVACsystems. • Keep equipment, systems and buildings ready for use by implementing preventive and routine maintenance programs and schedules for HVAC systems, and documenting. • Assist in completing projects by installing, restoring and repairing faulty or inoperative HVAC systems and associated equipment. • Troubleshoot HVAC systems by researching and evaluating conditions, advising supervisor and recommending actions. • Maintain indoor air quality by performing routine cleaning of HVAC system components and equipment rooms. • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs. • Daily rounds of assigned facilities to ensure proper function of equipment. • Meet regularly with the Project & Trades Manager and other Lead Engineer to plan/prioritize projects and routine maintenance. • Serve as mentor to the Engineering staff, sharing knowledge and experience as it applies to the task at hand. • Collaborate with other Lead Engineer (HVAC), UHL and University staff as necessary in the efficient operation of the Energy Management System. • Be accountable for after-hours and weekend call-back activity and/or for necessary monitoring and adjusting of building operating systems in person or electronically (via modem) as required or available. • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: • High school diploma or GED. • Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and operate lifts. • Ability to work in extreme heat or cold, indoors or outdoors, occasionally in noisy conditions. • Ability to pass fit testing and wear a respirator. • Ability to adjust and balance air distribution systems to achieve maximum energy efficiency. • Ability to install air conditioning units, wire controls, and build/install duct work. • Working knowledge of refrigeration theory, variable refrigerant flow technology, dual-flow/tri-flow systems, and multi-zone master/slave system operations. • Working knowledge of local and state codes and regulations for the installation of air conditioning, heating, exhaust, and ventilation systems. • Working knowledge of the operation and repair of centrifugal, reciprocal, and rotary chillers. • Knowledge of electricity and electronics sufficient to troubleshoot and repair complex HVAC automation control systems. • Ability to respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, in a manner that affirms the worth and preserves the dignity of individuals, families, and communities. • Knowledge of UHL or other building automation system (BAS) preferred. • Higher education experience preferred.
