Applications are invited for a Temporary Assistant Professor position in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, with September 1, 2019 start date. All fields are open for consideration, but we are particularly interested in candidates who (i) can work closely with current faculty in gravitation and astrophysics, or (ii) have a background in planetary science (solar system or exoplanets) or selected areas of experimental physics (especially quantum information science, atomic physics, or nuclear/particle physics). The ideal applicant will be a potential candidate for an expected tenure-track faculty position in fall 2020.
This is a one-year position, and the responsibilities are primarily instructional. For each semester the candidate will be expected to teach two sections of introductory physics (including labs), as well as an upper-level physics course. The teaching load will be approximately 12 teaching-credit-hours per semester. Candidates are also encouraged to pursue their research agenda. Collaboration with department faculty and students and participation in department activities is welcomed.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Montclair State University consists of 4 full-time faculty members. In addition to a major and minor in physics, we also offer a concentration in astronomy and certifications in physics teaching, as well as 5-year dual-degree programs (yielding a BS in Physics and a MS in Math or Mechanical Engineering).

A Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy is required; one or more years of postdoctoral experience is preferred but not required.
