Department: WESTERN COOLING EFFICIENCY CTR - 061842 Department Description: The UC Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC) works on energy efficiency technology research and transfer related to heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC). Through partnerships with industry and utilities, the WCEC participates in the research and development of new technologies, disseminates information, and implement programs that reduce HVAC system electrical demand and energy consumption in the Western United States. WCEC has recently received substantial increases in funding from utilities and the California Energy Commission. Current recruitments are all new positions. Job Summary: Under direction of senior Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC) researchers, the Research Development Engineer will be a member of the WCEC research team. Assist senior researchers in completing projects requiring computer modeling of HVAC systems and building systems simulation; assist in producing proposals for funding agencies; and author technical reports and outreach documents.
Physical Demands: Move office equipment weighing up to 20lbs.
Work Environment: - Work overtime, occasional weekends on short notice.

Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience and education related to mechanical engineering or HVAC fields.
- Experience in energy efficiency and related research programs and project analysis.
- Experience or education to make engineering judgments on HVAC system design options
- Expertise in a range of engineering-related tools and applications, to include MatLab, EnergyPlus, Contam, TRNSYS.
Preferred Qualifications: - Oral and written communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical individuals to manage, research, secure, and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems and make public presentations.
- Skill to interpret, and apply federal/state/university rules, regulations, and policies to specific projects issues.
