Reporting to the Vice President of Facilities & Operations, the Assistant Director, Campus Sustainability & Energy Management is responsible for implementing sustainability polices and managing campus energy use and will operate across administrative and academic areas of the university.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
â€¢Identify sustainability initiatives to enhance the Universityâ€˜s environmental stewardship efforts, and act as a resource for others wishing to pursue sustainability initiatives that maximize the environmental and financial performance of the University. â€¢Work directly with facilities personnel, project managers and consultants to incorporate energy saving initiatives into new construction, renovations, and operating standards. â€¢Responsible for monitoring and verifying utility consumption across campus, and authorizing appropriate payment to outside utilities companies (water, natural gas, electric, and oil). Negotiate lowest rates possible from National Grid and PSEGLI on all natural gas and electric accounts. Responsible for the purchase of natural gas and green energy from energy suppliers. â€¢Monitor campus utility budget projections with the Vice President for Facilities, and allocate expenses across various university departments utilizing computer software. â€¢Serve as a full-time member on the University Senate Environmental Priorities Committee to champion community sustainability issues. â€¢Track Department compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, and NY State Department of Environmental Conversation (NYSDEC) regulations. Submit reports as necessary. â€¢Assist Operations, Dining, Athletics and Residential Life Managers with the integration of environmental practices into daily operations, solid waste removal, recycling efforts, and energy management. â€¢Serve as Project Manager for Capital Projects within the Facilities Department. â€¢Establish and maintain an effective communications strategy, including a web site, an electronic newsletter, and/or news articles with the objective of raising internal and external awareness for campus sustainability activities. â€¢Establish effective linkages with faculty, staff, students, departments, clubs, and other organizations across the campus, and help to coordinate their efforts to advance campus sustainability initiatives and related educational opportunities. â€¢Identify and pursue potential Grant and Rebate opportunities to support campus energy saving initiatives or Sustainability practices to benefit the community.
