Qualifications -Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP) or Industrial Hygienist (CIH), registration as an Environmental Health Specialist (REHS), advanced degree in Health & Safety, or equivalent education and job experience in an academic teaching and research setting is desirable. -Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience with federal, state and local laws and regulations, and UCD/UCDH policies and procedures pertaining to EH&S safety programs. -Experience managing and implementing database systems used to generate reports, analyze data and develop inventory information. -Experiencing with basic computer programs, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook -Working knowledge of laboratory/facility operations, and equipment. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities The primary function of the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is to serve as the Safety Officer for the Schools of Medicine, College of Engineering-Biomedical Engineering (BME) and the Genome Center, Davis campus. This position is responsible for supporting the department, principal investigator and supervisor safety program including the development, implementation, facilitation, and coordination of all research and education safety management programs. This individual will also provide administrative supervision and leadership as well as acting as the liaison with EH&S.
