Cedar Sinai Park, one of Portland’s non-profit premier senior living and care organizations is seeking a Development Director with a proven track record in building development programs.
Cedar Sinai Park is a mission-based nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to provide residential and community-based care to our elders and adults with special needs, allowing them to live with comfort, independence and dignity in a manner and environment based on Jewish values. As our new Development Director, you will have the opportunity to help us plan and make the most of our exciting milestone.
The Development Director will act as an ambassador for Cedar Sinai Park by building relationships with a wide range of individuals, and directly soliciting major and mid-level gifts. Reporting directly to the CEO and managing the rest of the development team, the Development Director will build and implement strategies to achieve aggressive fundraising targets as the organization grows and expands its impact. Provides accurate and current donor records, potential donor lists, accounting records and minutes relevant to development work.
Creates and approves all correspondence and develops appropriate marketing materials.
Assists in determining goals, establishes short- and long-range strategic fund-raising plans that will realistically help to meet those goals in a pre-determined time period (i.e. planned giving program, newsletter).
Creates a campaign calendar.
Develops an annual budget and specific budgets for all fundraising activities in collaboration with the CEO and CFO.
Establishes an appropriate system of metrics and accountabilities for the department and the staff; and evaluates staff based on these and other performance measurements.
Oversees the selection, implementation, and utilization of technology to meet the needs of the philanthropy operation in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Works cooperatively with the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation.
Establishes guidelines for identifying prospects and maintains confidential records.
Solicits prospects and is available to assist volunteers with solicitation.
Provides support services and materials and shares information about the Development department, it’s activities and goals.
Works cooperatively with the Board of Trustees and Friends of Robison on matters related to fundraising and reports regularly at board meetings on Development department activity.
Maintains and fosters good relationships in the Jewish community and the Greater Portland community by attending major community events and working closely and cooperatively with and meeting regularly with the professional staff at CSP, the Oregon Jewish Community Foundation, Jewish Federation and other appropriate community organizations.
Manages grant development through relationships and funding entities. Researches proposals for grants. Assures that grants are written in a timely manner.
Exchanges information and ideas with other professional development directors locally and nationally. Participates in appropriate professional organizations, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Keeps campaign contributors informed and involved.
Solicits capital campaign donor prospects.
Completes prospect research.
Reviews data base information regarding prospective givers.
Facilitates meetings with key informants regarding prospects.
Researches media and reviews other publications regarding prospect information (i.e. annual reports of other organizations).
Coordinates and support all aspects of events.
Provides logistical support for volunteers.
Oversees all mailings and handles all written correspondence (i.e. invitations, marketing materials, reservation letters, name tags and table setting).
Maintains accurate records.
Uses both oral and written communication and responds with courtesy to constituents.
Capital Campaign Committee & Sub-Committees:
Provides staff support to the Capital Campaign Committee members.
Manages capital campaign logistical and process activities.
Communications: coordinates the development of printing and distribution of articles and materials for the capital campaign.
Manages collection of campaign pledges.
Oversees all written acknowledgements.
Manages accurate records of pledge payments received, payments and outstanding balances related to the Capital Campaign.
Communicates with donors regarding the naming of gifts for donor signage making sure all records are accurate.
Assists with design of donor recognition signage.

The ideal candidate for this position is a seasoned nonprofit or for-profit executive with a sound background and a commitment to quality elder care.
A minimum of five years of development experience in a nonprofit organization is required. The candidate will have a successful career in fundraising with knowledge of capital campaigns, endowments and other fundraising activities. Experience in development strategic planning and working with a governing board is also required.
The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications or related field, with advanced training in development.
Knowledge of Jewish practices and culture is a plus.
