Job Requisition Number: 26892. The Goldman School of Public Policy is a graduate school that prepares students for careers in public leadership.
The majority of the students at GSPP are enrolled in the Master of Public Policy (MPP) program, which emphasizes the applied and quantitative dimensions of policy making. The MPP may also be earned concurrently with degrees from several other UC Berkeley schools: law, public health, engineering, social welfare, international and area studies and the Energy Resources Group. GSPP also offers a Master of Public Affairs (MPA) program which focuses on policy management and leadership as well as a doctoral program for students interested in policy research. While the Goldman School does not offer a bachelors-level degree, the public policy minor is available to undergraduates enrolled at UC Berkeley.
Goldman School faculty represent the top researchers in their respective fields, which include economics, political science, law, social psychology and engineering. Their expertise ranges from education policy to racial profiling to clean energy. As teachers, they are dedicated to training tomorrow's policy leaders. As researchers, their work is shaping public policy today.
In conjunction with the Director of Global Programs, develops and implements programs, events and/or communication strategies designed to inform external constituencies of institutional programs, activities, policies, and practices; constituencies may include the general public, prospective students, parents, donors, campus visitors, government and/or community representatives.
Planning and organizing a professional development strategy that best meets the group and individual needs of the international partners, including: •Assist in the design and delivery of professional development workshops • Follow-up with professionals and academics to present selected workshops for custom programs •Under the supervision of the Director - develop and manage content and design of the Global Programs website in conjunction with the Goldman School’s web and IT team •Respond to and manage all inquiries for program areas from all interested parties •Execute all financial contracts with clients using templates vetted by the Business Contracts Office and the Office of Legal Affairs. •Arrange and manage logistics for professional development site visits •Arrange and manage short term housing rental units for semester programs and hotel accommodations for custom programs •Advise and monitor international guests as they develop networks of professionals both to solicit formal professional affiliations (internships) and to make contacts and form informal working relationships. •Develop and maintain a professional contacts database with appropriate individuals at the University, local, national, and international levels. •Execute compensation contracts and payments to program faculty and program presenters. •May research various topics and gather relevant data to inform unit strategic plans, keeping management informed as necessary and providing input as required. •Draft proposals, MoUs, Agreements etc. for the development of new programs •Draft and coordinate custom programs for US and international clients •Manage extended programs for international visitors •Maintain, existing strategic partnerships with US and international universities, government agencies, private and state-owned companies, and other organization that represent the emerging markets and constituencies. •Oversee planning for, and implementation of, cultural exchange opportunities
Relationship and Grants Management: •Assist in maintaining positive and productive relationships with clients and a wide range of organizations and individuals. •Respond in a timely, professional, and courteous manner to inquiries and other requests for information from client base, external partners, and staff. •Complete progress reports if required by the GSPP’s Dean.
General Administrative and Operational Support: •Assist with development and implementation of program projects and convenings, coordinating programmatic and logistical aspects of multiple programs. •Participate in and lead meetings to produce collaborative work products and improve processes; as needed take notes, keep records, and track and follow up on action items •Coordinate the development and production of materials and information to keep constituents informed about recent research and demographics focused public policy •Assist in the development and execution of programmatic webinars; researching trends, and topics; and speakers that would be of interest to the trainings, etc. •Regularly assist the Director for Global Programs in managing workload including, but not limited to, composition of letters and general correspondence as well as composition of spread sheets and graphs needed for documentation. •Assist the Director with research for written documents, workshops and requests for resources. •Track training expenses and ensure vendors are reimbursed in a timely fashion. •Organize and maintain departmental electronic and paper files. •Ensure APM-025 reports are generated and reflect faculty consulting compensation. •Responds to constituent inquiries. •Respond to requests for customized programs and initiate activities to engage potential clients when needed. •Respond to existing constituencies’ requests and create solutions with available resources that are allowed by University policies.
Other Duties as Assigned: •Rare weekends and evening may be required to respond to programmatic needs.•Thorough knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and procedures of building and maintaining effective relations with internal and external constituencies. •Thorough knowledge of the campus, its mission, goals, objectives, programs, achievements, infrastructure and issues of concern. •Thorough written, verbal and interpersonal communications, tact and political acumen to effectively represent the campus. •Thorough knowledge and understanding of general issues of concern in higher education, business, IT, US and international politics and current affairs. •Thorough research, analytical and critical thinking skills, including sound judgment and decision-making skills and skill to correctly identifying real and potential problems, advising management as required, and proposing effective strategic resolutions. •Skill in project management, multi tasking, including event planning and meeting deadlines. •Ability to find common ground among competing interests and constituencies. •Thorough knowledge of San Francisco and California to guide the international visitors and fellows.
Education/Training: •Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. This is a 100% appointment, two-year contract.
