The West Virginia University Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Institute is seeking applications for a Post Doc Fellow.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Assume primary responsibility and active research for the development of the projects
Mentoring (in the lab)
Presenting at national meetings
Seminar, conference, workshop attendance
Teaching (in the classroom).
Two (2) years of post doctoral fellowship
Multi-step synthesis, purification & spectral characterizations of organic molecules in general and cationic transfection lipids such as lipopeptides in particular. Interpretation of IR, UV-VIS, NMR and Mass spectra of synthesized organic compounds.
Nano-Particle (NP) preparation:
Liposome, micelle, PLGA NP preparation and characterization. Modification of NP with small peptide. Liposomal encapsulation of drugs, gene and SiRNA.
In vitro cell Biology:
Isolation and culture of primary and established animal and human cell lines;
Isolation and characterization of human fat derived mesenchymal stem cells
Isolation and culture of dendritic cell from murine bone marrow;
Isolation & purification of plasmid DNA;
Antibody saturation experiments on live cells; profiling cell surface markers with Flow Cytometry, Apoptosis detection through flow Cytometry;
Transfection biology; monitoring reporter gene expression using spectrophotometric and luminescence assays;
MTT-based cytotoxicity assays; various protein assays;
Western Blot, DNA gel electrophoresis, RT PCR, ELISA
In vivo Studies:
Tumor model studies: a) subcutaneous allograft model in C57BL6J black mice and, b) Orthotopic pancreatic cancer xenograft mouse model in BALB/C nude mice. c) Orthotopic glioblastoma xenograft model in mouse and Zebrafish.
For nanoparticle preparation: Use of peptide synthesizer, lyophilizer, mini extruder, Ti-probe sonicator and extruders for preparing small unilamellar liposomes, Malvern Zeta sizer for measuring sizes and surface potentials of various macromolecules, HPLC, IR, UV-VIS spectrophotometer
For in vitro and in vivo studies: FACS analyzer, PCR system, ELISA Reader and Luminometer, Inverted Fluorescence microscope, Tissue homogenizer, Cryostat for tissue section, CAM assay, Confocal Microscope, IVIS in vivo imaging, pico-injector (zebrafish) and stereotaxic (mouse) for intracranial injection.
