The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) is a utility watchdog group that serves as a voice for residential and small business utility consumers across Illinois. We strive for clean and affordable energy for all, with work ranging from challenging utility rate hike requests, to fighting for better consumer protection and sustainable energy laws in Springfield, to helping individuals understand the issues.
CUB’s outreach staffers travel the state to conduct over 400 community events per year. We are currently seeking a public-interest-minded person to take a supportive role in these efforts, focusing on a number of clean-energy grassroots events throughout Chicagoland this summer.
Developing an understanding of CUB’s issues and goals;
Researching new opportunities to spread the word about our services;
Assisting with event publicity, including mailings, emails, social media, and press;
Helping with logistical and materials preparation in advance of community events;
Working with the public at events;
Completing post-event data entry and assisting with follow-ups to contacts made in the field;
Researching programs and helping to keep CUB website and publications up to date;
…and other duties as assigned.
Ability to self-motivate and work with minimal supervision;
Great attention to detail;
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and data-entry;
A friendly attitude and the ability to connect with a wide range of people;
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
Note: some evening and/or weekend work required.

Additional Salary Information: This is a $15/hour, 30 hr/week internship with potential to grow within the organization. Start and end dates are negotiable, but we ask for at least a 2-month commitment. CUB's interns gain experience in state energy policy, social service, and consumer advocacy at one of Illinois' most effective and respected non-profits.
