The Lawrence Hall of Science seeks individuals with science backgrounds to serve as summer programming instructors for high school youth. Specifically, this position will act as an instructor for the East Bay Academy of Young Scientists (EBAYS) program and the new Future Ready Labs at UC Berkeley program. Program content includes environmental science, solar science, social justice, and college/career exploration (training on program content will be provided). The summer program instructor position is an ideal opportunity for people with analytical, science-oriented mindsets. In this position the selected applicant will facilitate engaging and meaningful hands-on science learning for youth. The position provides a great opportunity for professional growth and for one to gain valuable experience in teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
•Under general supervision, prepares educational materials. •Sets up classrooms and administers activities. •Adjusts program presentations to meet the needs of specific groups. •Documents program evaluations and makes recommendations for improvements. •May assist with development of new materials. •May have administrative responsibilities related to education programs.•Experience teaching and/or working with youth ages 12-18 with demonstrated creative teaching methods in an informal or formal learning environment. •Reliable, punctual, and committed to an assigned work schedule. •Responsible, organized, and healthy work ethic capable of working independently and collaboratively with an educational team. •Strong customer service and verbal communication skills. •A good sense of humor, flexibility, and ability to think quickly on one’s feet. •Able to lift up to 25 pounds (carts are available).
Education/Training: •Bachelors Degree in a STEM field and/or equivalent experience/training, or pursuing a Bachelors Degree or a post-secondary STEM education degree.
