Reporting to the Associate Director of the Career Center, the Assistant Director is responsible for advancing and complementing Santa Clara University’s Integrated Strategic Vision and Plan by developing and implementing major programs, systems, and initiatives designed to teach students the life-long continuous process of personal and professional development and foster meaningful connections with industry and alumni. This professional serves as a direct liaison to undergraduate students and in partnership with administrators, faculty, and staff and collaboratively cultivates relationships with companies, organizations and alumni in science, engineering, technology and innovation sectors. The Assistant Director provides career counseling and coaching to help students explore their passions and discover the intersection between their greatest gifts, talents, and the world’s needs. This role prepares students to make educated decisions as they discern and explore the ever-changing landscape of careers through innovation and strategic connections with the Santa Clara community, Silicon Valley, and beyond.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Campus and Industry Relationship Development and Management (35%)
Fully engage the university network in support of student career development by developing new and deepening existing collaborative relationships with administrators, faculty and staff within the School of Engineering, in the Sciences within the College of Arts and Sciences, and other identified university partners.
Actively seek approaches to expand and meaningfully scale the Career Center’s reach across campus to include the advancement of major Career Center strategic priorities.
In collaboration with the Employer Connections team, develop and implement an annual strategic plan to facilitate industry engagement in order to increase experiential learning and employment opportunities for students.
Spear-head and implement marketing and social media strategies to brand the Career Center to increase awareness of career development resources, programs, and opportunities for all students to engage in the personal and professional development process.
Develop, maintain, and share digital (and print) resources relevant to students and industry.
Major Program Implementation and Support (35%)
Develop and deliver a portfolio of major Career Center initiatives designed to help students explore their passions and discover the intersection between their greatest gifts, talents, and the world’s ever-changing needs.
Lead the process of establishing meaningful connections between students, industry, and alumni by creating and leading educational opportunities, networking events, industry panels, career fairs and boutique recruiting forums, industry treks, and other programming initiatives.
Industry and interest area clusters of focus include but are not limited to innovations in industry, engineering (all disciplines), data science and analytics, software engineering, product management, research and development, information technology, sustainability + renewable energy, biological and medical innovations, biotechnology, pre-health, and healthcare.
Identify, implement and manage technology platforms and resources that enhance and accelerate the networking and connections process for employers and students.
Hire, train, and supervise student assistants to support a major strategic operation including but not limited to peer career advising programs, marketing and communications, web development, graphic design, and data.
Serve as an active member of the Career Center team, participating in weekly meetings, representing the Center at appropriate campus and off-campus functions, training and supporting student peer advisors and interns, and providing support to all major Career Center initiatives.
Work collaboratively on the development and maintenance of career publications, data gathering, analysis and reporting, and marketing and technology initiatives.
Direct Service to Students (25%)
Leverage industry insights to provide individual and group career counseling and coaching, including administration and interpretation of career assessment inventories.
Connect students to resources, industry, alumni, and experiential learning opportunities.
Design and deliver educational sessions for students on career development and transition, job & internship search strategies, and local/national employment and labor market trends.
Develop, coordinate, and facilitate major programming for undergraduate students focused on vocation discernment such as an off-site retreat, a seminar course, or other program.
Continuous Benchmarking and University Representation (5%)
Ensure continuous enhancements through local, regional, and national benchmarking with counselor peers and robust industry networks.
Update position-related skills by participating in appropriate professional development offerings throughout the year.
Represent Santa Clara University’s Career Center through active involvement and leadership in regional and national associations.
Present at a number of university functions representing the Career Center, including Family Weekend, Parent Orientation, and other events as needed.
Provides Work Direction
Will supervise student staff and graduate interns to support strategic departmental operational priorities.

Experience and comfort with technology, database management, social media, and digital communication
User knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive.

Years of Experience
Three to five years of progressively responsible work experience in a combination of the following:
Career development, recruitment, human resources, university relations;
Understanding of Bay Area and Silicon Valley employment communities;
Experience with diverse and multicultural constituencies;
Career counseling or coaching experience in a college/university setting preferred.
