Job Title Systems Engineer (S03945) Job Description Summary Montgomery College, Rockville, has an immediate need for a Systems Engineer, S03945, in the Office of Information Technology, Rockville, Maryland. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. This position is full-time, non-bargaining, exempt.
The Office of Information Technology is seeking a Systems Engineer to ensure the stability, interoperability, portability, security, and scalability of various systems and applications. Incumbent will collaborate with systems and network engineers to select appropriate design solutions to ensure the compatibility of system components. The engineer may participate in off-hours projects and operations management.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Provide engineering support for Microsoft Windows Server, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), or other similar infrastructure centric applications.
Configure, install, implement, tailor and tune new software and hardware to ensure successful integration with existing College computing and network systems.
Document the configuration of the server/systems and any changes to the configuration.
Research, propose, and develop automation for routine processes.
Manage the assigned systems area of Microsoft Windows Server, SCCM, SCOM, and/or other infrastructure centric application infrastructure.
Ability and desire to learn new technology and implement solutions. Incumbent will become a subject matter expert within his or her assigned area.
Leverage available monitoring tools/services to produce data and reports for the proactive management of servers and services.
Resolve any incidents, issues, or requests with minimal disruption of client's ability to do their daily work.
Maintain system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, and preventive maintenance.
Monitor service desk and assist users and engineers with problems relating to the servers and services in his or her assigned area.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field, and/or any combination of education, training, and experience providing understanding of the field and the ability to perform the duties of the job.
Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering or system administration for Windows Server, MS System Center, and related systems.
Knowledge of the concepts and techniques of server architectures, hardware, and software.
Ability to configure, manage and implement infrastructure devices.
Knowledge of IT industry best practices, techniques and current/emerging trends, system security models and protocols.
Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve advanced server hardware/software issues and service failures.
Knowledge and ability to work with enterprise systems for medium to large organization.
Ability to explain, demonstrate, and provide guidance to clients on how to use the College's systems and services.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a broad team environment that may include end users, other system engineers, network engineers, database administrators, application programmers, or client support specialists.
Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
Ability to pay attention to detail, maintain confidentiality, multi-task, communicate effectively, follow written and verbal instructions, and work independently as well as with multiple teams.
Good customer service and interpersonal skills.
Willing to be on 24x7 call and to respond quickly to unplanned outages or issues.
Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Five plus years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering or system administration for Windows Server, MS System Center, and related systems
Proficiency with scripting languages such as PowerShell.
Experience with Microsoft Office 365.
Experience with VMWare or Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
Experience with Microsoft Azure Infrastructure as a Service.
Experience with monitoring tools such as Whats Up Gold, Turbonomic, or Solar Winds.
