Center for Regional Economic Advancement (CREA) supports a diverse and thriving economy in Upstate New York through four programs: 1) Rev: Ithaca Startup Works, a business incubator that leverages existing entrepreneurial support services; 2) The Southern Tier Startup Alliance (STSA) designed to bring together and leverage the contributions of incubators and entrepreneurial support structures in the region; 3) 76West, a clean energy business competition; 4) NSF I-Corps, a program that prepares University scientists and engineers to move their technology toward commercialization, and 5) Grow NY, a food and agriculture business competition. CREA also partners with Cornell colleges and units such as Johnson and Engineering to support entrepreneurship programs like eLab and the Technology Commercialization Fellows program; the Event Coordinator may be asked to assist in events related to these programs or others, depending on funding and need.
TheGrow NYinitiative is a $15 million program announced by NY State in February 2019 that includes a food and agricultural business competition and business support services to help create a thriving food and agricultural ecosystem in NY State.
Under the supervision of the Operations Manager and working closing with the Events Manager, the Event Coordinator will manage a variety of events and logistics related to Grow NY (50%) and Center for Regional Economic Advancement (CREA) programs (50%).
The duties of the Event Coordinator will be to ensure smooth implementation of all events and aspects of logistics coordination. In detail, the Event Coordinator will assist with the plan and design of events, and will oversee their implementation, manage logistics, identify and oversee subcontractors, manage lodging and travel accommodations, and support the promotion and marketing of events as needed in coordination with respective program teams and marketing and communications staff. The Event Coordinator will work with the Program Director to ensure quality and cost control over vendors and subcontractors as well as creating synergies between all parties.
Principal tasks include coordinating the activities of the partners and stakeholders involved with Grow NY and CREA events, as well as coordination with subcontractors. Will collaborate on the design, development and implementation of various activities decided upon in conjunction with the Grow NY Program Director and CREA Program Manager(s); Monitor budgets associated with these activities including providing observations and recommendations; Assist marketing and communication team with event promotion; and assist with setting and managing project deadlines, resolving issues related to Grow NY and CREA events, and supervising student interns as needed.
Activities may also include (but are not limited to) career fairs, networking events, hackathons, guest speakers and panels, tech treks, executive education, startup/business competitions; and within Cornell policies and guidelines, corporate outreach and fundraising. There will be limited travel (less than 20%) to support Grow NY Lead Generation events.
This is a one year term position with the possibility of extension.
Bachelor's degree with at least 2 to 4 years of related event planning experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Exceptional customer service skills and proven experience in event planning.
Excellent judgment, verbal and written communication, and public relations skills required as well as strong organizational, detail management and follow-through skills.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete multiple tasks and priorities. Flexibility in adapting plans consistent with changing needs.
Able to work effectively under tight deadlines and prioritize tasks as assigned.
Maintain polished and organized communications throughout the project cycle.
Proven ability to foster and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with diverse audiences.
Ability to function effectively with senior-level administrators, faculty and staff to execute assignments.
Proficiency and comfort with MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
Ability to advise and make recommendations on policy and procedural issues that affect project planning, schedules, and customer obligations.
Ability to advise and assist the clients and senior administrative staff in the oversight of project budget and the project financial planning.
Experience with AirTable, Slack, and EventBrite.
