Summary: The International & International Admissions Counselor oversees all aspects of transfer/international student services including international/transfer undergraduate admissions, SEVIS compliance, credit evaluation and international student support services. Specifically, this includes creating, developing, and implementing marketing plans, projects, and initiatives with the goal of increasing transfer and international student enrollment. This position focuses on developing the transfer and international student market by establishing, cultivating, and maintaining relationships with prospective transfer and international students at U.S. high schools, U.S. community colleges and English language schools. Moreover, the position is centered on providing excellent follow-through, customer service and communicating the educational opportunities available at Harris-Stowe State University.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Manage a defined geographic territory of high school students, transfer students and international students and meet pre-determined enrollment goals for the defined region. • Disseminate information during community programs, high school visits, college fairs and other recruitment events. • Perform follow-up activities including correspondence, tele-counseling, special events and recruitment travel both on- and off-campus. • Travel approximately 13 weeks during Fall and Spring semesters. • Serve as liaison between prospective students and campus departments. • Have a thorough knowledge of admission, academic and financial aid requirements and processes. • Assist with the follow-up to complete applicant files. • Review applicant files and make admissions decisions; conduct interviews when necessary. • Make scholarship recommendations; occasional awarding required. • Facilitate placement testing when applicable. • Conducts admissions presentation on- and off-campus. • Performs any other duties assigned by the Director of Admissions.
Education & Experience Requirements: The successful candidate must have strong management and interpersonal skills. Must possess computer skills and the ability to communicate effectively; both orally and in writing, with varied constituencies including prospective students, parents, secondary school personnel, alumni, faculty and other staff. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required; minimum of two (2) years of work experience in Admissions and Recruitment at a college or university and Master’s degree preferred. Experience with transfer students and/or international students preferred. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently, yet seek and appreciate the benefits of working on a managed team of admissions professionals using a systemized approach to recruitment and admission.
