This position provides operations support for Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration systems (HVAC&R). The position tests, maintains, calibrates, repairs, and operates DDC systems. Must understand and be able to use laptops, personal computers, hand-held tools and local monitors to isolate or troubleshoot defects or errors in building automation equipment.
Responsible for maintaining proficiency on campus DDC systems.
Test building alarms as defined.
Upload controller programs following the schedule.
Make recommendations on operation and repair of DDC and HVAC systems.
Understand and use laptops, personal computers, hand-held tools and local monitors to isolate or troubleshoot defects or errors in building automation equipment.
Test, maintain, repair, and calibrate building automation equipment.
Understand the basic operation of variable frequency drives and troubleshoot programming and operational problems.
Troubleshoot sequence of operations in control systems (hardware and software) including DDC controllers and field mechanical devices.
Resolve operational performance issues including nuisance alarms.
Reload controller program and facilitate detection of component, module, equipment or network faults.
Report and document findings on operational issues to supervisor and/or customer.
Maintain operational information on building automation control systems and update maintenance manuals, control drawings, troubleshooting guides, specifications, etc.
Document DDC and HVAC equipment repairs and changes.
Configure and replace field panels and software as directed.
Respond to scheduled work orders and follow up in writing with requesters and/or request additional repair.
Support building level networks.
Test and troubleshoot HVAC systems including measuring air flows, temperature, and humidity.
Provide technical support to work teams responsible for repair, maintenance, and operations of building, facilities, and physical infrastructure.
Gather energy use data for the economic analysis of building systems and operation required for project payback calculations.
Assist with commissioning verification testing on systems.
May provide work direction, guidance and training to Associate Energy Technicians.
70-80% of work is performed in the field including University facilities and construction/remodeling sites.
20-30% of work is performed in a general office setting. This position may be exposed to equipment and machine areas, hot/cold areas, extreme weather conditions, tunnels and confined spaces.
Completion of a two-year technical degree in electronics, HVAC, or building maintenance plus a minimum of four years experience working with building systems including pneumatic/direct digital controls service work, or an equivalent combination of related education and relevant work experience totaling 6 years..
Experience installing and maintaining one or more of the following DDC systems is required: Siemens, Johnson Controls, Trane, Honeywell, or equivalent product line.
Must be knowledgeable of PC based software for energy efficient HVAC control strategies and monitoring.
Must maintain low voltage electrician certification.
Skill and experience using electronic testing equipment is required.
