The incumbent provides visionary, collaborative leadership to the Central Plant operations team, and supports the University’s academic enterprise and commitment to sustainability and climate neutrality by providing safe, efficient and reliable utility distribution throughout the campus. This position will be responsible for substantial planning, personnel functions, development of staff and implementing policies and procedures that maximize the contribution of all team members.
Specific duties include:
Serves as the campus technical expert on Central Plant operations, maintenance, and utility distribution matters, represents the University at meetings, conferences, and similar public functions;
Provides integrated facilities services that represent industry best practices and surpass customer expectations;
Manages the campus central and satellite plant infrastructure as well as the Event Center plant infrastructure;
Manages the campus energy/utility management system and makes recommendations on repair priorities, operational improvements and energy conservation methods;
Determines priorities for major repair and plant renewal projects and identifies long-term plant renewal/asset preservation funding needs;
Develops and administers programs for maintenance, repair and operation activities and assure continuous operations;
Manages the training and operation of the after hours call center;
Ensures the protection of personnel and equipment is a top priority;
Provides training, materials and equipment to ensure personnel and equipment safety;
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related field and three years experience in an applicable field of engineering. Administrative and managerial experience in maintenance and utilities activities required.
Must have a valid Class C driver's license
Must be able to: analyze and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts; demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written form and proficiently utilize personal computers and computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, building automation systems and maintenance management programs.
Must display the skills necessary to learn and analyze complex utility systems operations. Must display solid technical knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot not only failures but operations errors and develop a comprehensive plan to correct deficiencies. The ideal candidate has a working level knowledge of central plant operations as well as a demonstrated ability to forecast and plan for future maintenance and repair projects critical to campus wide operations.
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills and abilities required may be substituted for the education ore experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Professional Engineer license
Project management experience
Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Project Management software a plus
