Departmental Overview The Associate Director of Education position of the Center for Energy Efficient Electronics Science (E3S) is leading the Education activities. This position's main responsibilities in the Center are the planning and execution of all education programs (community college students, Center undergraduate and graduate students, Center postdocs) in coordination with the Center's Faculty Director for Education. The Associate Director for Education will lead the day to day activities, coordinate student assistance, plan summer education programs, develop proposals for funding, write annual reports to funders (NSF), represent the Center at conferences and annual reviews, and publish results of the education activities in peer-reviewed journals.
The Center for E3S was established by the National Science Foundation as a Science & Technology Center (STC), with a 5-year, $25 million grant, and was renewed in 2015 for another five years and $25 million of funding. E3S is a complex organization involving five academic institutions, five major corporations, and worldwide visibility. E3S is researching revolutionary, out-of-the box concepts, and scientific principles that would enable fundamentally new and different science for digital information processing, in order to achieve a radical reduction in energy consumption. In addition to research, other elements of the Center for E3S are education, diversity and knowledge transfer. In support of education and diversity, the Center conducts educational and outreach programs for high school students, undergraduates, including community college students, graduates, and postdoctoral scholars.
Responsibilities 35% Student Research Programs Delivery:
Plan the development and lead the delivery of the Center's summer research programs (TTE REU, E3S REU, RET).
Coordinate with the program stakeholders and partners.
Recruit and manage the participant selection process.
Direct program administration and support.
Develop and implement enrichment activities.
Design and provide program materials and literature.
Support, advise and counsel student participants.
Direct and supervise student program assistants.
25% Program Administration & Leadership:
Establish the logistics and provide supervision to enable all education, diversity and outreach programs of the Center to be delivered
Provide overall project leadership and management
Identify venues and suppliers. Evaluate, negotiate, select and finalize arrangements
Execute administrative tasks, including submitting for reimbursements and arranging for payments
Keep the education, outreach and diversity pages of the Center's website up to date
Administer surveys for evaluating program effectiveness
Design, implement, and maintain database of all Center participants, including collection of demographic and training data for current participants, longitudinal tracking data of alumnae, and survey data on program effectiveness
Direct the development of recruitment and outreach materials for the Center's education and outreach programs
In coordination with the Center's Executive Director develop the education budget and account for all expenses to ensure that the programs are within the approved program budgets
20% Graduate and Postdoc Programs Delivery:
Create a network/pipeline of diverse students and post-docs, in coordination with the Diversity Director
Develop potential areas of focus and other opportunities to promote diversity initiatives
Develop and administer professional development activities for students and postdocs
Design and develop outreach materials and literature
Direct Center legacy programs including development of an e-book and a nanohub.org website
10% Education Strategy Development:
In coordination with the Faculty Director of Education and the Center's Executive Director, lead the long-term education and outreach strategy and planning to accomplish the Center's goals with the focus of ensuring a diverse pipeline of students interested and groomed for the Center's research focus.
Contribute to the development of policies and procedures, and monitor the strategic alignment of specific education programs and activities to ensure they support the Center's education mission
Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with the national education and outreach community
10% Grant Development and Reporting:
Participate in NSF site visits and lead education presentations
Develop programmatic education content for Center reports and other informational requests
Identify grant opportunities and lead grant-writing efforts in coordination with faculty PIs'

Bachelor's degree in related area (engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry)
Minimum of three years of work experience in related area
Experience in leading educational programs

*The salary range designated for this position: $55,100 - $84,000; however, starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
