Prince George Electric Cooperative (PGEC) is seeking a qualified candidate to join our award-winning team for the position of Vice President of Engineering. The candidate must have 10 years experience in electric distribution planning and at least 5 years experience in a supervisory role. The preferred candidate should also have experience in fiber optic plant construction and successful deployment of Fiber to the Home (FTTH). PGEC is a forward-looking organization, with recent investments in RF AMI Metering, SCADA, Distribution Automation and SMART Grid initiatives. This position demands leadership and management functions of planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and controlling the activities and affairs of PGEC in accordance with the established policies, strategic plans, and business objectives as delegated by the President and CEO.
To plan system design with consulting engineers and Cooperative personnel, to develop short-term and long-term work plans and designs.
To supervise economical design and construction of new substation facilities and electrical infrastructure required to maintain a safe, reliable electric distribution system.
To assist Operations with planning, organizing, and managing programs for the maintenance of rights-of-way.
To plan, organize, and direct programs for testing and maintenance of substation and distribution equipment items.
To supervise the efficient operation and maintenance of Load Management Programs, SCADA equipment, digitized map records, and operations/engineering databases.
To plan, organize, and direct programs for smart grid initiatives to include the effective operation of an Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Distribution Automation (DA) and other technologies.
To maintain a high level of technical proficiency at the Cooperative within the budget guidelines of the Cooperative.
To request and evaluate contractor proposals for labor and services associated with construction and maintenance of distribution facilities, and right-of-way maintenance. To oversee the administration of contracts supervised.
To work with the Cooperative President and CEO when localities and economic development organizations have economic development prospects within the Cooperative’s service area.
To work with Large Power Customers and Key Accounts on issues from design of service, contracts for service and energy efficiency or other needs.
To provide training on the job and from other sources to ensure that employees can perform required duties.
To ensure that work practices and procedures are in accordance with the Cooperative’s safety manual, OSHA regulations, and National Electric Safety Code, and any other body having jurisdiction.
To develop a work place culture by which employees will focus their responsibilities and activities on providing quality customer services in an economical manner.
To be receptive to member’s needs, complaints, and suggestions.
To assist in preparation of budgets and periodic comparison of actual costs to budgeted costs for the areas of supervisory responsibility.
To plan and organize selection of material standards for construction and maintenance of electric distribution equipment.
To plan and organize work and use of resources in a cost-effective manner.
To maintain knowledge of construction materials and equipment and oversee purchase of same in accordance with established purchase and inventory management procedures while supervising the Warehouse Manager.
To represent the Cooperative in community and other functions.
To use and maintain Cooperative equipment, tools, vehicles, and other property in such a manner that maximum service life is achieved.
The working environment of this position will vary from inside work to outside work and in inclement weather. Employee will be expected to be available for work outside regular business hours to respond to emergency situations. Overtime work may be required to complete job tasks.
Employee will assume responsibility of a standby supervisor for purposes of emergency calls.

To maintain a current working knowledge of relevant trends and developments in utilities and related industries; RUS construction standards and procedures; the National Electric Safety Code; and Cooperative Services Rules and Regulations, Rate Schedules, and Policies.
A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other equivalent Engineering discipline.
Possess Professional Engineer's license in Virginia or able to obtain licensure in Virginia.
Prefer ten years prior experience with a distribution electric cooperative and experience in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of an electric distribution system, fiber optic outside plant, employee supervision, safety, and customer service.
Familiar with RUS substation and distribution line design; construction, operation, and maintenance practices; industry safety practices; OSHA safety requirements; and the National Electrical Safety Code.
Must have the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
Possess outstanding leadership, management, and customer service skills.
Must have the ability to work independently, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
Possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License.
