In order to help meet the goals of the strategic plan, we are looking for a Manager of Telecommunications Networking. Following are the details about this opportunity.
Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Manager of Telecommunications Networking is responsible for leading the design, implementation, operation, and support of mission critical networking/ telecommunication systems which support the electric utility operations. Current systems include a Cisco based networking/VoIP environment supporting multiple locations, a private microwave and fiber optic based enterprise WAN, trunked/land mobile radio system, automated metering RF-based backhaul infrastructure, and RF-based load management system.
Management of all technical Telecommunications Networking staff and managed service providers.
Manage on-going department technology operations and processes to ensure high quality, reliable, cost effective services.
Developing and monitoring department operating budgets.
Excellent project management skills including the planning and deployment of a Telecommunications Network project lifecycle.
Developing materials, equipment and deployment contracts as well as service level agreements with vendors, telecommunications site occupancy agreements with select managed service providers.
Managing oversight assessment of performance of vendors and their ability to meet their obligations under the agreements.
Developing and implementing processes, including defining measurable goals, standards and other process measures.
Improves corporate safety performance by maintaining a safe and clean working environment, participating in department safety meetings, adhering to Employee Safety Rules and Procedures, recognizing at risk behaviors and conditions and taking corrective actions or providing feedback
Comprehensive understanding of the design, specification, installation and operation of networking/ telecommunications systems, including fiber, microwave, radio and cellular. Excellent communications and presentation skills at all levels, including with senior management, are also required. Previous experience managing and leading a team of technical professionals is highly desired.
Key areas of Telecommunications Networking knowledge:
Excellent knowledge of appropriate network technologies, protocols, network applications and communications mediums used by Wide Area Networks (WAN), Local Area Networks (LAN), and Field Area Networks (FAN).
VoIP Phone systems with call center
Cisco Certifications desired – CCNP or CCSP with solid knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and firewalls.
Installation standards for telecommunications networking equipment and cabling.
Microwave data transmission/networking.
Land Mobile Radio systems and trunking.
FCC Licensing requirements
Security and regulatory requirements common for Utilities.
General knowledge of ancillary supporting equipment, such as DC power systems, emergency generators, shelters and towers.
A bachelor degree is required (preferably in telecommunications engineering). Must have a minimum of ten years of experience in the design, implementation and support of telecommunication network systems, including supervisory and/or management experience. Experience with the application of telecommunication network infrastructure within a corporate infrastructure is required. Project management experience is desired. Understanding or previous employment with electric utility systems a plus.
Assistance with restoration efforts is required of all employees. It may be required during regular business hours that employees will be assigned functions to support restoration and for some employees that may be different from their normal duties. In addition, such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays which may involve considerable extra hours. In order to meet this working condition, all employees are required to provide a personal phone number where they may be reached after hours. This number will only be used for internal purposes.
