The Center for Regional Economic Advancement (CREA) creates and supports programs that leverage the region's robust educational and industrial assets, as well as the innovative and creative capacity of the Southern Tier's residents. Totally funding for CREA is over $14M. Our team of eight professional staff, several entrepreneurs in residence (EiRs), and 15+ student employees makes an impact on the region, works with talented entrepreneurs and their teams, and creates opportunities for learning and growth.
The Project Associate will work collaboratively with the Executive Director and functional team of CREA and will serve as a key member of the professional staff. Roles will include assisting in the management of a number of CREA's programs including: the Southern Tier Startup Alliance, Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Programs, 76West Clean Energy Business Competition, NSF I-Corps Program as well as support the general operations of the Center for Regional Economic Advancement. In addition, the Project Associate will support regional economic development activities including coordinating grant applications.
The Project Associate will manage a wide variety of program activities and must maintain a big picture perspective, while also implementing numerous program details. Required responsibilities include the ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and timelines at once, while demonstrating a positive, purpose-oriented work ethic. The incumbent will work with key stakeholders and must be able to accurately interpret grant agreement details, diligently track information and data about companies in the region, prepare reports, analyze data, and resolve or escalate complex issues as necessary.
This is a one-year term position with possibility of extension based on funding, successful performance and needs of the program.
Bachelor's degree with more than 3 years and less than 5 years of related experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven ability to work independently and proactively while using sound judgment in decision making.
Effective communication and public outreach techniques.
Experience creating project timelines, scheduling milestones, and managing projects to completion.
Excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
Proven ability to work collaboratively and enjoys building relationships with diverse groups and individuals.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Google Docs, Adobe and similar programs.
Passion for entrepreneurship, startup companies, the local community and Upstate New York.
A degree in business, communications, public administration, urban studies or urban planning preferred.
Experience managing Salesforce, Slack, Qualtrics, WordPress, and Airtable.
Experience writing business letters, grants, news stories, or other professional documents.
