This position supports the Department of Bioproducts & Biosystems Engineering in recruitment, and alumni, stakeholder, and student relations. The primary focus is to effectively represent the Department and its programs, increase awareness, interest, and applications for the departmental undergraduate programs—Bioproducts & Biosystems Engineering (BBE) and Sustainable Systems Management (SSM)—through recruitment and marketing activities. The person in this position will also coordinate alumni and stakeholder relations and the departmental scholarship program.
65% Undergraduate student recruitment, retention, placement, marketing, and communications
Work closely with the undergraduate program directors and the recruitment and retention committee to plan, design and execute student recruitment events and activities aimed at high school, community college and inter-university students.
Represent the department, college and University to high school students, families, high school teachers, guidance counselors and community college students, and community college counselors.
Make extensive outreach efforts and serve as an information source to prospective BBE and SSM students (and their parents), applicants, and admitted students, via telephone, written communication and campus visits.
Represent the departmental programs at off-campus recruiting venue such as college fairs, high schools, and other public events. Off-campus and outstate travel is required.
Represent the departmental programs at on-campus recruiting venue such as information sessions in the College of Science and Engineering (CSE), College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), Carlson School of Management, Coffman Union, and other public events.
Advise the student group and other affiliate organizations in their recruitment activities.
Work together with college (CFANS and CSE) admissions staff in complementing their recruitment efforts aimed at BBE departmental programs.
Participate in recruitment events and career fairs organized by the college (CFANS and CSE), Institute on the Environment, and University Admissions.
Work together with career centers and industry partners to promote student placement; participate in career fairs and interact with prospective employers; assist with student job placement efforts including arranging for employer info sessions, interviews, counseling, mentoring etc.
Assist with the BBE and SSM orientation courses and other special courses, as needed.
30% Scholarship Program Coordinator and Alumni and Stakeholder Relations
Work closely with the department scholarship committee to coordinate and implement the departmental scholarship process. Work together with college and university scholarship coordinators to facilitate effective coordination of departmental student scholarships.
Process scholarship donations through the University Foundation and maintain reporting data for all donations and scholarship fund balances.
Assist with organization of annual department Showcase events.
Assist Advisory Council and Board members by facilitating communication with the department and helping with meeting arrangements.
Coordinate events that connect stakeholders to students, including networking receptions, employer on-campus info sessions, and fundraising events.
Work effectively as a team member with Department faculty and staff. Activities may include, but are not limited to, occasionally serving as first point of contact in front office and collaborating with staff and faculty to plan, develop, and coordinate events and gatherings.
Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience, or a combination of education and related experience totaling 6 years.
Experience working with students
Ability to travel within the state and region, occasionally beyond; some overnight travel is required
Ability to work evenings and weekends if needed
Valid U.S. Driver's License
Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs
