Position Overview and Responsibilities: We are currently looking for a self-motivated and independent Synthetic Chemist to work in Dr. Poddutoori's research group. The preferred candidate will possess M.Sc. with strong experience in synthetic chemistry, spectroscopy, and photochemistry. The selected candidate will be involved in synthesis, characterization, and spectroscopy of novel porphyrin based materials for solar energy conversion, molecular electronics and photodynamic therapy applications. This person should be able to perform literature surveys, carry out experiments, find the solution to research problems and prepare reports and presentations. Candidate must have excellent experience in various analytical and spectroscopic techniques as well the ability to interpret the corresponding data. The selected candidate will be expected to supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and must be a team player. This is a 12-month, temporary, Civil Service position.
Required Qualifications: • BS/BA and 1 years of related experience or equivalent combination a combination of education and work experience to equal five (5) years.
Preferred Qualifications: • M.Sc. degree in synthetic chemistry. • At least two years of research experience (synthesis, purification and crystallization methods) in porphyrin chemistry and coordination chemistry. • Experience in various chromatography techniques. • Experience in materials characterization using NMR, ESI-MS, UV-visible absorption, and emission spectroscopy, as well as electrochemistry. • Experience in spectroscopic titrations using NMR, absorption and fluorescence techniques. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Experience in chemistry software like ChemDraw and data analysis programmes such as Origin. • A demonstrated publication record • Excellent problem solving skills with minimum supervision. • Knowledge of X-ray diffractometer and EPR techniques. • Capable of supervising undergraduate students. • Maintenance of laboratory equipment. • Maintains safety, health and environmental procedures. • Experience in writing scientific reports (i.e. manuscripts).
