Berkeley Lab's Information Technology (IT) Division has an opening for a Analytics and Integration Engineer. In this role, you will collaborate with key functional system owners/representatives to understand, analyze and model business requirements, processes and data, identify business rules, and develop test plans. You will have the opportunity to work with all components of the technology stack - from software installation and configuration to solution architecture and development; including service delivery and support. The major components of our technology platform include Oracle RDBMS 12c, IBM Information Server 11.7 and IBM Cognos Analytics 11 on RedHat or CentOS Linux.
This position will be filled at a level 3 or 4, dependent on experience. This position will be hired at a level commensurate with the business needs; and skills, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate.
What You Will Do:
Develop and maintain high performance multi-dimensional (OLAP) and relational BI solutions using a combination of IBM Cognos technologies and Oracle RDBMS including Transformer based Power Cubes, Dynamic Cubes, DMR structures and aggregated relational models for use through Cognos front end and studio tools.
Develop robust ETL strategies to meet Data Warehouse requirements for nightly and near-real time data updates, history retention, complex hierarchies and row based data security.
Analyze data sources, validate business rules, transformation logic and error handling algorithms against source data and iterate with functional and technical owners to refine where necessary.
Design and develop ETL jobs utilizing IBM DataStage, Quality Stage, Oracle, and other technologies.
Implement techniques such as parallelization, partitioning, hashing, in memory operations (sorts, aggregations etc.) to improve ETL performance.
Develop data validation/reconciliation programs for measuring and reporting data quality.
Work independently, or with technical and business counterparts as necessary to prepare plans to repair data and restore integrity. Implement and test fixes per plan.
Using IBM Information Server platform, design and develop a comprehensive master data solution as a single point of reference for key business data.
Use state of the art techniques such as webservices, pub/sub services etc. for provisioning master data as a set of information services for system and individual consumers.
Interact with the source system developers and functional system owners to stay abreast of evolving systems.
Work with developers and users during all phases to ensure coherence between BI design and database models.
Implement database and ETL modifications in a manner that minimizes change impact to downstream applications.
What Is Required:
A Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 8 years of related experience with one or more leading Analytics and Data Integration platforms or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent skills in conducting user requirements gathering sessions in a group setting.
Must be able to engage users using variety of illustrative/prototyping techniques and iterative sessions.
High degree of proficiency with IBM Cognos Software suite.
Proven experience with multi-dimensional OLAP structure design using tools like Transformer, Cube Designer and Framework Manager.
Experience with ETL technologies, particularly IBM DataStage for both traditional parallel jobs as well as more modern SOA based data consumption and delivery.
Good understanding of data profiling and transformation methodologies utilizing Information Analyzer and QualityStage tools, to ensure data cleanliness and integrity.
Strong skills using RDBMS platform like Oracle, to perform SQL query and procedural processing using native tools (e.g. SQL*Plus, SQL Developer etc.).
High degree of proficiency with key data structures like tables, view, mviews as well as optimization approaches such as data partitioning, indexing, denormalization, aggregations etc.
Ability to learn highly technical and specialized skills quickly to adapt to the changes and advances in technology for Data Warehousing (RDBMS, ETL etc.), OLAP and BI systems.
Must have good interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
Must be team oriented and able to interface at various levels with users and clients.
Must be able to work occasional off-hours and weekends and be available as part of 24X7 production support coverage during fiscal year end activities.
What We Desire:
A Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 12 years of related experience with one or more leading Analytics and Data Integration platforms or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advance SQL and PL/SQL skills to implement complex business logic, bulk processing of data and perform query operations that include analytical and hierarchical processing.
Experience in Logical Data Warehouse design and architecture.
Experience with a prominent master data management solution.
Prior experience with MDM implementation in an organization or a business area.
