Berkeley Lab's Performance and Algorithms Research Group in the Computational Research Division has multiple immediate openings for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Performance and Algorithms Research to implement and optimize highly-parallel codes from the Fusion Energy, Catalysis, Genomics, Graph Analytics, and sparse direct solver domains, as well as develop novel parallel algorithms for the aforementioned science domains.
What You Will Do:
Analyze the on-node performance and inter-node scalability characteristics of Fusion Energy, Catalysis, Genomics, Graph Analytics, and/or Sparse Direct Solver codes when running on supercomputers built from thousands of GPUs or manycore processors.
Develop new optimizations and algorithms to mitigate any on-node or inter-node bottlenecks in these codes to enable faster on-node performance and better distributed memory scalability.
Participate in a multidisciplinary team involving computer scientists, mathematicians, and domain scientists with the purpose of developing and deploying these optimized codes for the solution of scientific and engineering problems.
Document work and results in the form of journal papers and conference proceedings.
Present work and results at scientific meetings.
What is Required:
PhD degree, within the last 3 years, in computer science, applied math, computational science, or a related technical field.
Proven experience in high-performance parallel programming in high-level languages (e.g. MPI and OpenMP in C/C++).
Proven experience in performance analysis and performance optimization of distributed and threaded applications.
Proven consensus builder in a highly collaborative environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

This is a full time, 2 years, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
