Position Description Major Duties and Responsibilities - Responsible for first-line supervision of skilled craft work performed by more than one trade with main trade responsibility of the refrigeration and air conditioning shop in the Facilities and Operations Directorate.
- Plans, coordinates, directs and reviews the work of assigned staff. Direction of work includes assignment, scheduling, training, technical direction, grievance handling and disciplinary actions.
- Works closely in a team environment and coordinates with other craft supervision, engineers, and department coordinators on work planning, tracking, and completion of work orders.
- Provides technical assistance and information on work of the unit to Laboratory customers, staff and other supervisors.
Position Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ten years' related experience in the applicable construction and maintenance pertaining to the HVAC field.
- At least three (3) years supervisory experience.
- Commercial or industrial electrical/HVAC experience
- Strong construction background.
- Experience coordinating and directing multi-trade projects.
- Experience coordinating and directing the work of staff, including assignments and scheduling.
- Strong communication skills interacting at multiple levels including trades, customers and team members.
- Strong sense of accountability and responsibility for staff and work product.
- Demonstrated leadership in safety values and ability to impart values to staff.
- Ability to provide technical direction.
- Ability to understand what drives priorities and basic financial management (managing priorities, budgets and costs)
- Ability to plan work, including estimating time and materials for a job.
- Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Driver's license.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Experience in supervising or coordinating work with bargaining unit staff, including grievance handling.
- OSHA construction safety training (30 or 40-hour certification).
- Universal refrigerant license.
- Experience using a maintenance management system or CMMS program to issue and track work orders.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS)
