Brief: Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is an early stage, well-funded MIT spinout pursuing the fastest, surest way to clean, limitless fusion energy. We are looking for a talented Supply Chain expert to secure our supply of high temperature superconductors and other key components.
Commonwealth Fusion Systems’ mission is to enable world-wide clean energy for everyone, creating a sustainable environment for current and future generations. We’ve created a credible path to an operating fusion powerplant in 15 years which leverages our novel collaboration with MIT and funding from strategic and financial investors who share our vision. Head of Supply Chain High temperature superconductors (HTS) are the key enabling technology that allow us to achieve higher magnetic fields and a smaller, more economical tokamak than previously possible (by two orders of magnitude). The HTS industry is young and ready to grow, with more than ten suppliers able to deliver HTS tape, which varies in performance and quantity. The CFS Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for ensuring CFS’s access to sufficient quality, quantity, and cost of tape to meet all of its needs. These responsibilities will include:
building and maintaining relationships with all HTS suppliers;
guiding the continual evaluation process of each supplier, working closely with the CFS technical team;
understanding each supplier’s needs and creating creative deal structures to meet both parties’ objectives;
working with the CFS leadership team to determine the company’s overall HTS tape procurement strategy;
leading negotiations and signing supply agreements;
ensuring on time delivery of all tape orders;
proposing creative and actionable strategies to ensure the long-term health of the HTS industry
and security of CFS’s HTS supply; and
helping secure the supply of other important systems and components for CFS’s power station
and spin-out technology R&D.
The ideal candidate will have:
a minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain management;
specific expertise at nurturing and building a supplier base in nascent industries;
a strategic mind with the ability to form creative strategies and deal structures to meet the needs of all parties;
the ability to grasp technical details and learn the key metrics and tests for superconducting tape;
a proven track record for negotiating favorable deals and driving the delivery of low cost, high quality product;
a history of thriving working in a fast-paced, startup R&D environments;
