The Senior Laboratory Technician will prepare instructional material and laboratory samples for advanced physical, inorganic, chemical biology and analytical chemistry laboratory courses.
This position will meet with faculty each semester to plan curriculum and syllabi, participate in lab instruction, assist undergraduate students during lab sessions, update laboratory protocols, train graduate students, manage hazardous waste, perform maintenance and repairs on mass spectrometry equipment and coordinate with equipment vendors on major repairs and problems including software and hardware upgrades.
This position will also meet with faculty to strategically plan for new experiments in growing areas of chemical science including protein biopharmaceuticals, biomaterials, fuel cells and renewable energy. This position will also help undergraduate students with research projects, instrument training and data processing including the Discovery cluster.
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry with 5 years or more experience in supervising a university teaching lab. Master's degree or graduate level courses a plus. Excellent chemical hygiene and laboratory safety record. Strong organizational and communication skills and must be able to meet deadlines. Experience using physical, and analytical chemistry laboratory equipment including Mass Spectrometry, Liquid Chromatography, FTIR, Atomic Absorption, UV-VIS and Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Proven ability to manage laboratory housekeeping.
