Supports and maintains HomeWorks GIS database by ensuring the layers, attributes, spatial relationships, and connectivity are accurate and reflective of our electric and fiber systems.
Update GIS in a timely manner to reflect changes made to our electric and fiber systems, including but not limited to; new services, line relocations, work plan projects, maintenance, pole replacements, switching operations, and phase changes.
Correct GIS and customer records so they model accurate outage prediction.
Conduct routine data integrity checks on GIS system.
Provide tech support and training of all GIS related software programs. Supports field operations personnel by assisting with MapWise digital staking system and training personnel with new equipment.
Works in conjunction with the Cooperative IT department, and the appropriate vendors, to insure that all computer software and hardware used for mapping is maintained and upgraded as needed. Software verification is performed after upgrades.
Validates, researches, and prepares accurate right-of-way easements, conducts deed searches, and identifies property owners to assist in gaining permission for the construction of facilities.
Receives subdivision maps from developers. Works with engineer to import/input into GIS and provides maps back to developers/other utilities/etc.
Responds to requests for utility information by MDOT, counties, or townships.
Prepares maps for annual pole testing, annual ROW clearing, permits, and expansion of fiber facilities.
Continually seeks enhancements to the mapping system that will provide additional value to members and employees.
Supports Engineering/Operations with power quality investigations.
Provides cost quotes for new construction and line relocate projects.
Acts as a backup dispatcher. This includes answering the radio, updating on-call, maintaining a database of crew locations, responding to Miss Dig requests, and assisting with power restoration efforts.
Participates in monthly safety meetings and other meetings onsite and offsite as needed.
May be required to take on-call rotation
Performs all other duties assigned by Manager of Engineering Services.
Required Education and Training:
Two-year technical degree in Geographical Information Systems, Electric Power Systems Technology or related field is desired.
Valid driver’s license
First Aid and CPR Certification is desired
Must be able to pass a drug screen and physical
Electric utility and/or GIS experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Requires being detail oriented. Must maintain accuracy of all data.
Requires having strong analytical, math, problem solving, planning and organizational skills.
Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and equipment for proper use of software and to support of power quality issues.
Knowledge of RUS specifications for overhead and underground construction, the National Electrical Safety Code, OSHA regulations, and local and state codes.
Requires comprehension of property descriptions for ROW easements.
Must possess good interpersonal skills, both oral and written, for dealing with both internal and external customers.
Must be able to work under limited supervision, taking various ideas and developing them under own initiative.
Must take initiative on a variety of projects simultaneously, work under critical time pressures and meet deadlines.
Ability to perform both individually and in a team environment.
Requires general knowledge of computer systems, printers, and GPS devices.
Must have ability to learn applications utilized with this position.
