Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is seeking a Manager of Western Region. REC is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The Cooperative serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. REC operates and maintains more than 17,000 miles of power lines through its service area. The Cooperative serves a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial accounts such as, Kings Dominion Amusement Park, Equinix, Merillat, General Electric, Axalta, Kraft Foods Group, and Southeast Container just to name a few. This position will serve as the Manager of Western Region assuming responsibility for the performance and well-being of approximately 100 employees including their safety and the safety of the general public where the power grid is concerned. Reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering and Operations. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of strategies that connect our members and communities with safe, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions. Functions as primary managerial representative in Western Region activities that benefit the communities and Cooperative members located in Culpeper, Albemarle, Greene, Madison, Rappahannock, Page, Warren, Clark, Frederick, Fauquier, Orange, Stafford, and Spotsylvania counties. A four (4) year college degree or equivalent required. Must possess 10 years of progressive management work experience with an electric utility, with preference for a cooperative type environment. Experience should include operations and construction, line design, maintenance, outage management, budgets, planning, human relations, public speaking, media relations, community involvement, and customer service. Position shall be primarily responsible for operations and construction, line design, outage restoration, capital and expense budgets, fostering a safe work culture, and providing customer service that leads to higher customer satisfaction. Ensures that the Cooperative’s Workforce Development Program is implemented effectively and in a manner benefitting the employees of the Western Region. Must have a good working knowledge of the Cooperative’s rates, Terms and Conditions, and Bylaws so that a clear explanation of each can be communicated to others. Must have demonstrated management and leadership abilities. Must be a strategic planner with the ability to implement plans. A good professional speaking voice and the poise to address public gatherings of various sizes is required. Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing and interact effectively with other Cooperative personnel as well as individuals outside the organization is essential. Must strive to obtain operational efficiencies within the region and across the system and be able to develop and implement cost control strategies. Must maintain close communication with the Operational, Tactical, and Strategic Group. Perform other duties as assigned. Basic computer skills, to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, as required by job responsibilities and the possession of a current Virginia driver’s license is necessary.
