The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certified or willing to obtain those certifications. Candidate should have 5 years of electric utility experience. Must be skilled in communicating and presenting engineering designs to technical and non-technical personnel. Familiarity with NESC, knowledge of electric utility design and operations is preferred. Specific job duties include, but are not limited to conducting engineering studies, data analysis, troubleshooting and investigation of new equipment. Successful candidate may supervise others depending on experience and qualifications. Candidate must be detail orientated, able to communicate effectively, able to work independently, multitask and prioritize tasks accordingly.
The System Engineer is responsible for providing cost-effective engineering for electric system construction and maintenance with minimal direction. The position maintains working knowledge of the MLEA substations, transmission, and distribution systems, including design and equipment specifications and operating principles. The position also assists in the preparation of technical engineering studies, reports and assists in development of construction work plans. Provides project management for large construction/maintenance projects with minimal direction. Works regularly with consultants and contractors, providing instructions and direction for consulting project managers. May supervise the work of others.
Provides assistance to staking engineers associated with work order designs.
Participates in activities to ensure electrical protection of the MLEA electric system by developing technical studies such as coordination, sectionalizing, voltage, and fault studies; and assists in the planning for long-term and short-term construction work plans.
Engineering Protection system settings and recommendations, utilizing sound judgement and available system data.
Performs design and recommended facilities upgrades to substation and distribution lines as determined from system analysis and approved work plans. Prepares and presents design drawings and project details for approval as requested.
Prepares engineering report computations, cost estimates, specifications or other engineering details as requested.
Works closely with other departments on various tasks, report analysis, and data development, as requested.
Prepares routine technical specifications; identifies material needs and issues procurement instructions for routine projects. Reviews and prepares recommendations for new materials/equipment specifications.
May serve as lead or committee member on various company committees or tasks as directed, promoting team work between departments. Provides information and engineering assistance as directed for prospective and/or planned generation or renewal energy projects in MLEA service area.
