The Energy Manager is responsible for implementing energy programming and identifying best practices to meet the Universityâ™s energy, emissions and savings goals. Perhaps most importantly this position will ensure the energy team collaborates effectively with Operations and D&C and departments across campus - requiring the individual to work with Operations and D&C to develop a comprehensive understanding of how E&E, Operations, and D&C can best complement each other and meet all divisional goals and outcomes. This position will provide technical support in the development and implementation of energy programs including energy efficiency projects and self-generation projects. The EM will oversee the two Energy Engineers and Energy Project Manager and will oversee the split time of the Systems Programmer housed in Operations. This position will be responsible for demand response/limiting, GHG tracking and reporting, supporting the Universityâ™s energy goals, and energy management tools. The EM will be the primary utility and emissions advisor on all capital projects and major renovations.
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering/scientific discipline and 10 years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience; Experience in a complex, multi-building environment; Diverse knowledge of many trade areas including: mechanical, electrical (including high voltage), fire alarm, sprinkler, elevator, plumbing, pipe fitting, HVAC and controls technology, district cooling and heating systems, and building electrical distribution and service systems; Advanced knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, methods, and techniques; Knowledge and understanding of all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and operating guidelines; Significant experience in energy management/energy auditing of facilities, preferably with research facility management and auditing experience; Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; Ability to provide technical leadership and project management to engineering projects of high complexity and broad-ranging scope; Ability to adapt and modify engineering techniques and develop original model concepts; Ability to manage and coordinate the work of technical consultants and/or contractors; Ability to develop and manage project budgets, and to track and project costs; Demonstrated ability to negotiate and navigate in a complex, collaborative environment. Ability to use good judgment and provide exceptional leadership to Operations and PD&C that ensures optimal Energy Efficiency of buildings and systems. Ability to plan steps and carry out multi-phase projects requiring problem definition and modified techniques, to coordinate work with others, and to modify methods and procedures to solve a wide variety of problems. Ability to direct and organize program activities and to establish program goals and objectives that support the strategic plan; Ability to develop and evaluate policies and procedures; Ability to prepare and analyze reports; Ability to accomplish tasks timely and with minimal supervision; Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment; Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator; Physically capable of accessing areas in buildings where mechanical equipment is located.
