Provides oversight related to occupational and industrial safety management for NSCL/FRIB Office of Environmental Health and Safety; develops, oversees, and implements occupational and industrial/ safety procedures and guidelines for NSCL/FRIB; maintains an integrated occupational and industrial safety management system for the NSCL/FRIB; assists in establishing, auditing, and enforcing NSCL/FRIB occupational and industrial and safety policies; conducts periodic inspections and compliance assessments at the NSCL/FRIB; prepares written safety assessments and develops safety procedures, guidelines, and training; participates in accident and injury investigations and proposes and tracks corrective actions for NSCL/FRIB; performs other duties as assigned.
Position responsibilities are expected to include inspection and risk remediation in laboratories and other facilities governed by provisions of the Arms Export Control Act, the Export Administration Regulations, and/or by government grant terms and conditions imposing citizenship restrictions on project participants.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, physics, chemistry, health physics, medical physics, or other applicable science degree; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in industrial hygiene, occupational safety and developing and delivering safety training; experience in conducting safety compliance assessments and audits; and understanding of federal, state, and local regulations and licenses; knowledge of federal occupational safety standards and practices; or an equivalent combination of education or experience.
Proven team-building abilities; experience with auditing and maintaining OSHAS 18001, ability to utilize the latest methods in developing and providing interactive safety training both for online and instructor-led programs; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
