Job Code: 4352Grade: IExemption: ExemptSummary: Work with other staff engineers and data scientists to analyze the operational characteristics of Campus Central Energy Facility, solar generation assets, and plant optimization software to collect, analyze and make data-informed recommendations on a comprehensive operational strategy that minimizes cost. Continuous validation and reconciliation of cost and revenue streams. Initiate and lead energy market analyses, making recommendations for load and generation assets. Thoroughly understands demand response and capacity bidding programs to make expert recommendations while minimizing risk exposure. Reports to the Associate Director, Engineering, Stanford University. CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES30% - Operational strategy development: Use multiple data sources to continuously analyze electricity market and plant operational characteristics, make recommendations to management on strategies to minimize electrical costs. Monitor and analyze changes in external regulations, legislation, and internal policies for potential impacts on cost. Develop complex forecasting scenarios, long-range planning and analysis for operational and financial reporting. 30% - Technical Support: Provide technical support for daily operations, plant and process improvement, and design to support budgeting and capital planning. Perform root cause investigation and data analysis for equipment failure, and recommend corrective actions. Conduct performance evaluation and testing, collecting and analyzing operating data to develop plans and recommendations to optimize performance. 20% - Renewables & Storage: Determine strategy for using renewable assets to minimize cost and maximize revenue associated with generation assets. Apply advanced analytical skills and interpretation of energy storage systems and energy storage devices. Research federal, state and local incentive and grant programs to determine eligibility and performed detailed cost analysis of project and market opportunities. Define requirements, develop and implement complex test cases, perform testing and analyze results. 20% - Market Research Analysis and Business Development Support: Serve as organizational representative on committees and boards related to electricity procurement. Continually assess business needs, and formulate recommendations to determine approach to developing, managing and completing procurement and transaction processes. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline, or another degree field with relevant experience.
Five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Operational experience in power generation, district energy, or related field.
Data and/or market analysis in the operation or management of electrical load and generation assets.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Proven ability to synthesize information from disparate sources to draw meaningful conclusions.
Strong project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.
Proven ability to build effective relationships and work seamlessly with organizational staff, vendors and contractors to execute projects.
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with all audiences, including those with technical and non-technical backgrounds, both verbally and in writing.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Operations experience in power generation, district energy system, oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, or other environment with critical operations and high uptime requirements.
Proficiency in advanced analytical tools and programming language such as Python, Java, R, or similar language.
Proficiency in advanced data visualization tools such as Tableau, Qlikview, Plotly, etc.
Experience with enterprise data historians.
Enrollment or management of utility demand response programs and/or capacity bidding programs.
Experience with direct access electricity, renewable energy, and/or electrical storage system portfolios.
Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies associated with power generation or other industrial facilities.
