METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, is seeks a community faculty instructor to teach GEOL110 Introduction to Earth Sciences in Fall 2018. GEOL110 is an introductory, general education lecture/lab course to geology, meteorology and astronomy. Topics include measurement and the scientific method, rocks and minerals, weathering and erosion, earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, geologic time and the history of the Earth, structure and composition of the atmosphere, weather patterns, climate, a history of modern astronomy, the solar system, light and the sun, and stars beyond our solar system. This position is part-time, temporary.

Faculty members are expected to demonstrate ability to teach Geology effectively at the undergraduate level. Outstanding candidates will demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body through delivering a student-centered education in a Geology and will possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.
When: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m. – 8:10 p.m.

Enrollment: 24 students
Ph.D. or MS in Geology or related field.
Demonstrated excellence teaching at the post-secondary level effectively.
Communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
Demonstrated ability to work in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse workforce.
The School/Academic Department: Located in the new Jason R. Carter Science Education Center on the St. Paul campus, the Natural Sciences Department and offers majors in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Life Science Teaching and minors in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.
